Five Minute Friday – Present

It’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

Last week, the word was BEAUTIFUL

This week, the word is PRESENT.

Is that supposed to be a noun or a verb?

Present as a verb:  I would like to present you with this award…

Present as a noun:  I would to give you a birthday present…

Present as a goal: I need to be present when my kids are talking to me, not just sitting in the room while they chat.

I can wrap them all up in one:

I would like to PRESENT you with this PRESENT of my PRESENCE.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone actually say that out loud.  It would be weird if they did, right?  But I’ve had people give me that gift.

When I’ve needed it most, I’ve had people sit down and just listen… listen like they were drinking in my every word.

When I’ve needed it most, I’ve had someone pay attention to every detail of my life… like a mother drinking in her newborn child down to the last hair and freckle.

When I’ve needed it most, I’ve known someone who would just be there, providing a comforting presence when I was afraid to be alone with my own thoughts.

They are the gifts I  treasure most.  I treasure the friendships they represent.  I treasure the sacrifice of time and inconvenience made on my behalf.  I treasure the magical something that happens to my thoughts when I speak them aloud.

Present.

I love the present of a friend being present.

I vow to present my family with the present of me being present when they need it.

Present.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
