It’s Five Minute Friday! My favorite writing time of the week.
Last time the word was SEE.
Today’s writing prompt is… ENCOURAGEMENT.
Five Minute Friday
Sitting next to me on a the bookshelf behind me is a tiny silver box made of cardboard and wrapped in a silver ribbon. It’s empty, but I can feel the weight of the box from here. I’ve had it for almost eight years, and I can still hear the speaker’s voice as she spoke quietly to the room of 100 women.
She told us the story of teaching a little girl about the importance of encouragement and picking kind words to say to one another.
She told us that she used a verse from Ephesians to help the little girl understand that kind words weren’t just a rule, they were God’s best for each of us.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29 ESV)
She said the little girl was quiet for a moment and then responded.
Oh. I see. Our words are supposed to be like tiny gifts to each other… little silver boxes wrapped up in bows.
What more could I possibly say?
Five Minute Friday is hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama. Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.
If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple. Lisa-Jo gives a single word writing prompt every Friday. Each of us have five minutes to write and post. No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff. Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details). Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love
