Five Minute Friday – Brave

It’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

five minute friday braveIf you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

Last week, the word was FRIEND

This week, the word is BRAVE.

Five Minute Friday

Brave.  The opposite of fearful.

I don’t normally think of myself as brave.  I’m so filled with my own insecurities and self-doubt that it’s hard to see how anyone could ever think of me as brave.

I have moments of braveness.  Even when I don’t feel it, I’ve been known to fake it.

Brave is when I stand at the threshold of the door, listening to the laughter of a group of strangers.  I feel the fear well up inside of me but I walk in the room anyway.

Brave is when I quietly smoosh the spider instead of screaming and throwing things at it.   I’m afraid, but I don’t want to teach that to my children.

Brave is when I sit down and write, for five minutes, on a topic I’m unprepared for.  Brave is when I push the publish button without editing.

brave is when i write for 5mf

Brave was when I started being authentic with my words. Because I believe in my heart that I’m not alone and that other women go through the same crazy stuff I do.

Brave was when I asked for a bigger paycheck. They told me no.

Brave was when I walked away from my job to follow my heart.

Brave is when I start my own business.

Brave is following my dream, making it real with every word I type.

brave is authentic

Brave is being a fool.

Brave is trying sushi for the first time. I was on a date with the man who is now my husband and I really wanted to impress him.

Brave is getting up at 5am to make my dream come true.

Brave is fixing the toilet all by myself, with a toddler hanging onto me for moral support.

Brave was killing the snake.

Brave is setting goals.  The chance for success is also the chance for failure.

Brave is me.

STOP.

Brave is pushing the publish button, even when I don’t like my post.  My time is up and I committed to Five Minute Friday, so I post.

I know that I’m a stronger writer for pushing myself with 5MF week after week.  Even when I have a week where the post doesn’t thrill me, I still believe that.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. Love your thoughts on being brave. We are brave, every day, as moms. Take care. Found you over at Lisa-Jo's.

    • We are brave as moms. I don't think we give ourselves credit for how many times we're brave each and every day! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Thank you for being brave and sharing!

  3. That was pretty amazing for 5 minutes! My thoughts would have been all over the place! You’re BRAVE for simply being able to do this!

    • I’ve been doing 5MF now for 10 months. At first, it was awful! I’m so thankful no one was reading my blog back then because it wasn’t worth reading. But the process has been worth it. I’m a more confident writer because I do this each week.

More importantly, I’ve trained my brain to write on cue. It’s rare that I sit down and just stare at the screen of my laptop. Normally, I can sit down and start writing almost immediately. 5MF has been good for me.

  4. Stopping by from FMF. I feel you on the spiders, friend! Love your bravery in pushing the publish button without editing!

    • Some weeks, 5MF doesn't require bravery. The words flow and it's easy. This week, it was HARD and scary. I had to be BRAVE. Thanks for visiting!

  5. Linking up again through FMF. So enjoyed reading your transparent and personal thoughts on what being brave means to you. You were a great encourager to me in this process of being Brave enough to post something on a topic I was unprepared for and that encouragement has helped me keep posting. Thank you for your love and authenticity!

  6. Nice post. This is really useful for me.
Very well written and easily to learn.
    Thanks for the sharing.
