Portrait of a Nine Year Old Boy

Happy Birthday to Watty!  My oldest son turns NINE today.  Where did the time go?

I can’t believe that nine years ago, I looked like this!

mothering in process

(sigh. once i showed the blue eye shadow love’s baby soft photo i’ve lost all control.)

Watty is an amazing kid.

What does a nine year old boy look like?  I’ve painted a portrait of him in words.

Portrait of a Nine Year Old Boy

  • He like to read. His preferred books are the ones that include (in his words) talking animals.  Since I’m a huge reader of fantasy novels I’m delighted to see him raiding my bookshelves with increasing frequency.
  • He thinks zombies are cool.

when zombies attack

he investigates everything

  • He has a warped sense of humor.  Like every other boy his age the jokes are peppered with mild potty language.  But he thinks “stupid” is a bad word.
  • He knows what a Uvula is and isn’t afraid to tell you about it.  He can even spell the word correctly (most of the time).
  • He is afraid of drinking water in my car (I am totally to blame for this!)
  • He loves drama.  He has crazy accents for made-up character

hands up or the kitty gets it

  • He’s an amazing young man and I am lucky to be his mom.  He is a blessing and a gift from God.  My life is forever changed for the better because I have a son named Watty.

Happy Birthday son.  I love you.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
