Five Minute Friday – mess

Here we are, back at Five Minute Friday!  Today is the day I write for the sake of writing.  I love this day.

Today’s writing prompt is… MESS.

Five Minute Friday

Mess.  It’s strangly appropriate.  My entire world is a MESS right now.

Seriously.  I’m sitting in my car during my son’s Friday afternoon baseball practice. My younger one is in the back seat, whining in boredom.  My fingers are flying across a tiny bluetooth keyboard as I hurry and try to finish this post before time is up.

Time? Five minutes… or until the battery dies on the iPad.  Whichever comes first.

The iPad. Yes. In tears yesterday I confessed to my husband that I couldn’t get it all done. I’m overwhelmed with all of what needs doing and how little time there is to get it all done in. His solution? Adding a data plan to my device.  Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

Stress has been my constant companion. As I rush from place to place, I’ve started negotiating on the non negotiables again.

Spandex pants at the grocery store straight after the gym? Sure.

Skipping the post work out shower knowing iI’ll just be hot and sweaty again in a few hours? Sounds good.

Laundry? Totally optional.

Dishes?  Paper sounds great about now.

Nutrition? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Quiet time?  What’s that.  Unless you count the 10 minutes I grab in carline each day… well… it’s a mess.

It’s not cute. It’s not attractive. It’s certainly not sexy. But it’s real.

When life gets this way then things are wrong. This craazy busy mess isn’t what I’m called to live. It’s not God’s best for me. or my family.

STOP.

Five Minute Friday  is hosted by LisaJo Baker on her blog. Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

Five Minute Friday

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. Running a household is hard, that’s why I really wonder how the single parents do it all – while also working. I think we are very lucky to have our spouses to help us with raising the kids and nurturing a household, while also facing challenges at the the workplace.

  2. How would you know if the participant is following the rules?
