Five Minute Friday – Look

five minute fridayFive Minute Friday is my favorite post each week!

I normally start looking forward to the Five Minute Friday reveal as soon as I hit “post” on Thursday (and sometimes sooner!)

It’s the biggest free-writing flash-mob I’ve found on the internet and I seriously love it! I have fun writing, and I love the community that forms the flash mob.

The rules are simple:  one prompt, five minutes to write, no editing.  The flash-mob is the brain child of Lisa-Jo Baker and is hosted (hostessed?) at her Tales from a Gypsy Mama Blog.

Last week, I wrote about RACE

This week, the topic is LOOK

Express Yourself – Find Joy

express yourself - day 5 of 31 days of joy in motherhoodConfession: When I first jotted down the topic “express yourself” as part of the 31 Days of Joy in Motherhood series, I started singing the Madonna song.

(and as I type this, I’m still singing it.  if you feel a need to put on a super pointy bra and dance around with your underwear outside of your yoga pants, i totally am to blame.  sorry.)

(and if that made no sense, go watch the music video on you tube. but be warned… it IS madonna.)

So how does “express yourself” relate to Joy?

No Cussing Allowed – An Open Letter to Cussers

Talking About Cussing - An open letter to cussers

My blog is a no cussing zone.  But some of my favorite blogs don’t have the same policy.  I wish they did.

Dear Cussers,

I really don’t know what else to call you.  Is “cusser” OK, or would you prefer “user of obscene language.”

Let’s stick with cusser.

Maybe it’s just me, but I really wish you would stop typing all four letters of all those cuss words.  Honestly, I can fill in the blanks for myself. [Read more…]

My Kids Make Me Laugh – About Blogging

my kids make me laugh from thishappymom.comMy kids make me laugh every day, and this week it’s about blogging.  Specifically, about the fact that I’m going to a blogging conference this weekend.

Watty can’t figure out why I’m abandoning him this weekend, and he’s asked some really cute questions.  The kids are curious about why I spend so much time typing, and they have a hard time understanding it.

On the way to school yesterday, Watty started in on the blogging thing.   [Read more…]

Why Content Brew Rocks

But I’m so glad I did.

Being Real

being realAs I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten better at being real.

Yesterday (September 2nd) marked three full months of blogging at ThisHappyMom. I went back and looked… I wrote my first post on June 2nd of this year.

That’s also the day I purchased my domain name.

I actually started as a WordPress.com site and becomes self hosted the following weekend.

Looking back at some of those older posts it kind of weird. In three months, I’ve learned a lot about formatting my content for easier reading (shorter paragraphs, using sub headings). I’ve learned how to write content that is search engine friendly. I have really changed the HOW of writing.

But beyond that, WHAT I write about has changed.  It got real.
