The Prospect of Joy

the prospect of joyI want to think that my Prospect of Joy is high all the time.  I’d like to think that at any given moment in my life, Joy could happen.  I’d like to think that for you too!

The question is, how can we make that happen?

Remember when we defined Joy earlier this month?  I included a secondary definition for Joy.

the prospect of having what one desires

I started wondering what that looked like.

Prospect has two very different definitions, both of which apply to Joy in Motherhood. [Read more…]

Why Content Brew Rocks

content-brew-course-125-aI blog on a budget, so paying for Content Brew wasn’t an easy decision.  Any time I spend money for one thing, it means I have less money to spend elsewhere.

But I’m so glad I did.

Melissa Culbertson from MomComm made the class worth every penny, and then some. [Read more…]

Analog or Digital Parenting

analog or digital parenting from thishappymom.comAnalog or digital parenting? Huh?

Choosing analog or digital isn’t as simple as I once thought.  Until recently, I never thought of it in the context of parenting.

For the past ten (or more) years of my life, I’ve been increasingly dependent on digital content over the traditional analog (or printed) methods.

Until a few weeks ago, I would have chosen digital over analog, electrons over paper.

I’m now rethinking my stance.

Menu Monday – Goals n Stuff

menu mondayGood morning friends, it’s time once again for Menu Monday.

If you recall, last week I wondered aloud if Menu Monday was a useful part of my blog and if it fit in with what I write about the rest of the week.

I even asked you (my readers) to provide me with feedback.  You did.  Thank you.

For now, the menu stays.  But I’m making some changes. [Read more…]

Monthly Goals – August

monthly goals from thishappymom.comMonthly goals are a good thing, right?   The theory is that having goals means we accomplish more stuff, and that without goals we end up just meandering through life.

I pretty much blundered my way through the summer and ended up accomplishing very little that I had wanted to do.  Based on my personal experience, the whole “goal theory thing” is right.  So I’m being all mature and grown up and I’m trying to set some monthly goals.

You’ll note that I’m posting this at the last possible moment.  It’s not like I had monthly goals just sitting there ready to go or anything.  I am totally flying by the seat of my pants on this one and I’m running the risk of spectacular public failure.  (entertaining for you, but not enjoyable for me). Scripture Picture: Psalm 90:12

Psalm 90:12

updated 3/17/13:  Psalms 90:12 continues to be a touchstone verse for my life.   Whenever I feel overwhelmed with too much to do, this verse helps me to slow down and refocus.

Teach me us to make the most of our time so that we may grow in Wisdom. — Psalm 90:12

It’s more of a prayer than anything.  Many times, I find myself rewording it, praying it as “teach ME to make the most of my time Lord! I need to grow in wisdom!”

I’m putting a fresh copy of this verse in my planner where I can see it often.

In case I need more:

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
For the Lord holds them by the hand. – Psalm 37:23-24, NLT

Built with ScrapPad on my iPad. Very easy to use. Free sample versions are available too.

Menu Monday – The Eggs-ellence Edition

menu mondayIt’s Menu Monday (written on a Sunday) and I’ve got an egg-cellent plan for the week.  I’m still working on the theory that planning meals will actually translate into me cooking meals at home that my picky eaters will enjoy.  Some weeks it works better than others.

Last Menu Monday (the desperate housewife edition) was written with me flat on my back. I was mobile by Monday, but I’m still not able to do some heavy chores around the house.  I’m sad to say I still can’t empty the cat litter box, take out the trash, empty the dishwasher, or carry things upstairs.  I think it may be months before I recover (giggle).
