Days of Anger – The Beginning

As I shared yesterday, I was reluctant to write about anger. It’s not exactly in my comfort zone. I wrote about JOY last year, so at first it seemed like a bit of a credibility stretch for me to tackle.

But then I looked hard at the dictionary (well, I Googled it.  I didn’t get carried away to the point of pulling out an actual printed book or anything.)

31 Days of Joy in Motherhood – Day 31

31 days of joy in motherhoodIt’s my very last official post in the 31 Days of Joy in Motherhood series.

Yesterday, I took some time to read back through the whole series as a single body of work. It was… interesting.

On the whole, I accomplished what I set out to do.  But… [Read more…]

So what’s the big deal about motherhood?

motherhood - 31 days of joy in motherhood from thishappymom.comMotherhood – 1. the state of being a mother; maternity. 2. the qualities or spirit of a mother

Not exactly a comprehensive definition.

Not exactly a job description that makes me excited to wake up and start being a mom.

Honestly, it kind of leaves me asking the question –

What’s the big deal about motherhood? [Read more…]

12 Simple Ideas for Well-Being

As I laid out on Day 2 of 31 days of Joy in Motherhood, our well-being plays a role in our ability to experience joy.

I’ve tried to write this post several times already, but ended up deleting my efforts.

12 simple ideas for well-being from

Be thankful I waited!

The first one was preachy.  The second one was filled with bad puns (well-being and being well and how well is your being… and beans). Then I wrote a big confessional about all the ways I’m not taking care of myself.  Boring!

In the process, I’ve figured out what I really really really really want to say about this. [Read more…]

Authentic Joy – Being Real Matters

get real, find joy - 31 days of Joy in Motherhood from thishappymom.comI wanted to write about authentic joy, about how being real and authentic is a huge factor in how much Joy I have in life (as a mom or wife or woman or whatever).

But to do so, I have to make a big confession.

I struggle.

I like to pretend my house is neater and cleaner that it really is.

I like to pretend that my family eats healthier food than we really do.

I like to pretend that we’re better people than we really are.

And I struggle to admit the truth. [Read more…]

What Steals Your Joy?

what steals your joy - 31 days of joy in motherhood from thishappymom.comWhat steals your joy? Do you even notice when it’s gone?

Some days, I wake in the morning and realize I just don’t have “it.”

For whatever reason, something snuck in and stole my joy while I was sleeping. And I wake up feeling like I am anything BUT a happy mom.

Honestly, there are days when I calculate if I can go back to work and earn enough money to cover after school care AND maid service.

There are days when I mentally run away from home. [Read more…]

(and i bet you wondered if i was skipping a day in the 31 days of joy in motherhood.   nope.  i’m late, but i’m not about to skip a day.)

But what exactly does that mean?

Felicity (giggle) really is just another word for joy

felicityAs I’ve already confessed, the word “felicity” makes me giggle.

I know now that it’s just an old fashioned word for happiness, joy, and bliss.  But I used to think it meant something else.

It was generally used in the context of “I hope you have a felicitous marriage” when I read it in English period novels.  So I assumed (naively) that it was a nice way of saying there was lots of (blush… ahem… you KNOW) and that both parties enjoyed themselves.

(I was standing in a card shop giggling at the wedding cards when my mom discovered my misunderstanding. Imagine the look on HER face.)

Today’s post is all about felicity.

I have five ideas to create more felicity in your marriage.

joy quotesI wanted to share some Joy Quotes with you today.

Obviously, since I’ve been writing about Joy for over two weeks straight now (This is day 18 of 31 days of Joy in Motherhood)  I’ve done a ton of “research” about Joy on Google.

One of the things I’ve discovered is that there is a ton of great information out there, as well as a bunch of stuff that’s just “meh.” [Read more…]
