P is for Passion

It sounds so simple — live your life with passion and purpose.

Nailing down exactly what that means is a little harder. What exactly does a life filled with passion and purpose look like and how on earth do I achieve it? People build entire careers around the subject. The publishing industry churns out countless books on the subject.

Y’all. We spend an inordinate amount of time and energy trying to figure out what it means to live with passion and purpose instead of actually LIVING that way.

Let’s start with passion.

It would be easy to focus on the red-dress and smeared lipstick kind of passion. (Perhaps a tad embarrassing as well.) While I hope you still get a dose of that in your married life, it’s not the kind I want to focus on. I don’t think you can build an entire life around THAT kind of passion.

I like the definition I found on Urban Dictionary (of all places.)

“Passion is when you put more energy into something than it requires. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement. Passion is ambition materialized into action to put as much heart, mind body and soul into something as is possible.”

That’s the kind of passion I want to write about. It’s the kind of passion I want to ignite in others. A life filled with that kind of passion would be awesome.

In point of fact, it’s the kind of passion I HAVE been writing about for the past two years. Many of these are post titles, the rest are recurrent themes. But, they’re also a rallying cry.

Be passionate about motherhood.
Go outside and play with your kids.
Let you kids make you laugh.
Enjoy this phase because it’s fleeting.
Enjoy your spouse.
Treasure your family.
Love the season of life you in.
Live your dreams.
Love your life.
Choose joy.

That’s the kind of passion that makes me a happy mom. It’s the kind of passion that is sustainable and fulfilling.

Don’t you want some?

How are you going to live your life with passion today?

be passionate about motherhood

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. Susan, I had a "slip of the click" and your site popped up! Oh, it feels so good here. Your site is comfortable and makes me want to pull up a cyber seat. I am going to read your 31 Days series…and I already know…I'm gonna be blessed! Thank you.

    • I’m so glad you had a “slip of the click!” Welcome. Pull up a cyber seat and nose around. I’m on the very last bit of giving my blog a good fall cleaning – just in time for company to pop in and stay for a cup of coffee.
