10 (more) Happy Mom Questions for you

10 happy mom questionsI recently posted ten happy mom questions – questions my kids ask me that make me happy as a mom.  I also included a tongue-in-cheek listing of fantasy questions that a perfect child might ask a perfect mother, just because it made me laugh to write it all down.

Today I want to take the concept of “happy mom questions” in a different direction.  I wanted to share a list of questions I ask myself.  I guess you could call it a cheat sheet for being happy, or maybe a checklist to happiness.  The idea started as a working list of habits for happy moms, only I wanted a personalized one based on things that make ME happy and not just a generic list of stress busting activities.  It ended up being more of a happiness triage list.

I call these my happy mom questions, but really it’s my personal checklist for taking care of myself when I am suddenly having a “momma ain’t happy” moment.

10 Happy Mom Questions when Momma Ain’t Happy

  1. Did I talk to God lately?
  2. Did I listen?
  3. Did I take my vitamins and hormones today?
  4. Have I had enough water lately?
  5. When was the last time I sat down?
  6. Do I need to turn the television off? (yes. always.)
  7. What has me ticked off?
  8. What can I do about it?
  9. What three things absolutely have to get done today?
  10. What am I going to NOT DO to get some breathing room?

These are most effective when I accompany them with a small piece of dark chocolate.   I rarely need all ten at the same time.   But I can pretty much promise that when I’m having one of “those moments” — thinking through my check list starts making things better.

Care to share?  What’s on your checklist?  Do you have one?  Do you need one?

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. I don’t have a checklist but what a GREAT idea. I think the question I would have to add for myself would be: When did we last leave the house?
