Houston Mom Blogger Susan Baker - ThisHappyMom.com

That’s me. Being a Goof. Being a Happy Mom.

Hi, my name is Susan Baker and I am a Houston Mom Blogger.  I am also the woman behind ThisHappyMom.  I’m thrilled that you’re looking at my “about me” page and I’d love to tell you a little bit about me and my blog.

My passion and mission in life is to encourage other moms to find joy in everyday motherhood.

I am completely thrilled when I connect with other moms (like you) as we walk together through motherhood.

I love being a mom.

But I am also a writer, a cook, and an fiber artist.

I’m crazy in love with my family.  I serve an amazing God.   I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

Houston Mom Blogger Susan and her husband have been married for over 11 years. They have two elementary aged sons and live in a suburb of Houston Texas.  Their family loves camping, baseball, swimming, and video games.

I take my job as wife and mother seriously.  I have two fabulous kids to launch into adulthood.  One of them launches in only ten years, and he’s got a LOT of stuff to learn between now and then (starting with how to change the cat litter box).  I have the most incredible husband I could have ever have wished for, and he deserves my best.

What is ThisHappyMom about?

I’m so glad you asked.

The short answer is that it’s about my journey to find happiness as a mom.

The longer answer is that I believe it’s about every woman’s woman’s journey, including yours.

I share my mothering mischief with you.

mothering mischief in the poolI’ve learned that the playful creative side of me is part of my mothering mojo.  I tap into it regularly.  My kids never know what to expect, and I like it that way.

I give my kids Pink TV as a part of screen bans.  I use the phone on my camera to stop tantrums.  I bury dollar bills in laundry.

I giggle with you when my kids make me laugh.

my kids make me laugh about pink pony sparklesI believe it’s important to find the funny in every day life.  When I have a choice between laughing and yelling, I’ve learned that laughter works better.

I’ve learned to treasure the tiny moments of our every day life by seeing just how extraordinarily funny they are.

For a long time, my favorite story was the one about S-E-X.

Right now, I think it’s the one about killing (virtual) chickens.

I write about thankfulness.

thankful thoughtsEach Sunday, I take time to share something I’m thankful for.  Sometimes it’s big and serious (like church or God or spring).  Sometimes it’s silly (like Tortilla Faces or the color PINK.

The act of sharing thankfulness with you each week does amazing things for me.  I hope it does for you too.

I wrote for THIRTY ONE DAYS about Finding Joy in Motherhood.

31 days of joy in motherhood

I covered Joy, Happiness, and Felicity.  That last one makes me giggle.

I encouraged you to go play with your kids (I’ve done that more than once.  I really believe it matters.)

I gave you suggestions for how to be refreshed and renewed, how to regain your perspective through Thankfulness, and how to express yourself.

And ultimately, I reminded you that Joy comes from God.  Prayer is a part of motherhood.

I’m a regular contributor.

MOMtorI guest post monthly at Mothering From Scratch as one of their MOMtors.

I’ve shared how I deal with the unexpected boredom that come with motherhood.   I’ve also written from my heart about three gifts every mom can give herself.

I share my life.

I figure part of motherhood is the day-to-day stuff like cooking and cleaning.  Why not share that journey with you?  I randomly write about my ongoing battles with laundry, chores, and the cat litter box.

I love my husband, but from time to time I dish about his battle with Engineering Disease.

I even share an epic multi-post journey about eggs.  I promise it’s funny.

I share my story about how I became the happy mom behind ThisHappyMom, how crochet keeps me sane, and how I survived a year-long remodel.

When not blogging, chasing children, or fighting with the laundry, Houston Mom Blogger Susan can frequently be found hanging out at a local coffee shop. She also haunts Target like a mad woman and has been banned from the store before. She has been spending far too much time with all forms of Social Media lately and can no longer call herself an introvert.

a little about thishappymomI love my blog.  I want you to love it too.

I’d love to hear from you and hear your stories.

I adore it when I hear from you in comments, because then I can write back to you and keep the conversation going.

But I also love it when you reach out and talk to me on twitter.  I tweet back, a lot.

And I love bantering with you on Facebook.  I like to share cool stuff and ask silly questions.

If you like what you’ve read, you can subscribe to my blog using RSS or have each post emailed directly to your inbox.

Now that Google is abandoning their RSS feed support, I’d recommend the email route.  It’s what I’m switching to.

I also have a weekly newsletter filled with extra fun.

You are also welcome to email me.  I’d love to hear from you any time.  susan@thishappymom.com
