Motherhood

Reading from left to right, the story goes…

  1. Stick!!!!
  2. Mommy, I found a stick
  3. Look mommy, it’s a stick!!!
  4. I go show daddy.
  5. OK Watty, I’ll stay here with GoGo.
  6. Bye Bye mommy.
  7. Watty, come back, that’s too far!
  8. Watty looks back, sees how far and begins to cry.
  9. Daddy to the rescue.
  10. Daddy, I can be brave if you are with me.
  11. Hi mommy!
  12. I go find another stick.

GoGo was about 6 weeks old at the time, which would make Watty about 17 months old.

These images are burned in my heart as the picture of motherhood. I can’t explain it. I just know that sometimes, my mom-job is to stand still while they run forward into the world… and to be there when they run back home.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
