First Day of School Round Up

First day of schoolIt’s the first day of school for most of my friends.  I’m trying not to gloat about the fact that my kids have been in school for a full two weeks.

Instead, I’m featuring a round up of back to school resources to help them in the transition.

The first day of school can be really tough for moms.

There’s that general listless feeling because the house in empty and quiet.

It’s too hot for bon-bons, and there aren’t any new episodes of Desperate Housewives available to PVR yet.

So what’s a mom to do?

I’ve helpfully provided you with some suggestions on how to spend your day now that the kids are at school.

Once the school year gets in full swing, weekends are too busy to be restful.

Mom, you work double shifts on the weekends.

You need (make that DESERVE) a day off for your own enjoyment.

So I’m suggesting that we rename Monday to MOMday.

You deserve a MOMday.

Mom, you’ve been busy getting ready for the first day of school, did you get it right?

back to school traditions scorecardI’ve provided you with a scorecard to rate your back to school traditions against your friends.

Motherhood is NOT a competitive sport.

Your kids will have a great school year no matter what you didn’t get done.

But it’s still fun to compare notes.

Did you remember the lunchbox note?

lunch box notes

If you’re struggling with what to write on your lunchbox notes as much as I was, I’ve got some great news.

I rounded up some great suggestions for how to write the perfect lunchbox note.

I also gave you a list of lunch box notes NOT to write.  Ever.

For those of you in car line, I can relate.

10 commandments of car lineI know car line is horrible.

I spent lots of time last year wishing there was a list of car line rules so I could tell people they were doing it wrong.

So this year, I wrote the rules down.

If you want to be really helpful, you can print this out and share it with Mrs White European Sedan.

For those without car line problems, read it and gloat.

If you need more help, I’ve got some great ideas pinned on Pinterest.

I pinned stuff that’s actually helpful with photo tutorials and stuff.

Because I needed help.

This concludes my back to school series.

Just wait until you see what I do to Halloween.

Sound off, let me know what you are planning (or did) on your first day of freedom.

P.S. – I changed comment settings over the weekend.  Please let me know if you’re having problems or if it’s obnoxious in any way.

  1. I like that idea. Moms definitely deserve a Momday! …too bad I’ll be at school all day, so I won’t be able to relish it much, but I fully plan on drinking my Diet Coke at my desk at lunch time and taking some mom time to read my favorite blogs. Happy Momday!

  2. Nice! Love the Momday idea!!!

  3. First day of school is one of the most exciting activity we look forward every year. Even though we just moved, we’ are transitioning to new environment pretty smoothly.

    • I love the first day of school and all the anticipation. I love the blank slate of potential for my kids. I can see how it could be your favorite.
