E is for Encouragement

E is for Encouragement.

If you read my bio, the very first thing I list is that “I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places.”

As I move to embrace that idea more intentionally, it’s only fair to explain why I’m so passionate about encouragement.

e is for encouragement. as much as we need to be encouraged by others, we need to be an encourager to those around us.

Encouragement changes everything.

Roughly speaking, encouragement can be defined as

The act of giving someone support, confidence, or hope. Encouragement is knowing when to give a pat on the back and when to say “you can do better.”  Encouragement is the art of teaching another to fly.

The very definition gives me the feels. I need that stuff. I need support and confidence and hope on a daily basis!

I NEED people in my life that catch me when I fall, who push me when I want to quit, and who I can lean on when I’m to tired to go on.

As much as I need encouragers in my life, I have an equal need to BE an encourager to those around me.

It’s best explained in a Five Minute Friday post on encouragement.

That’s the one where I paraphrase Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.  (Ephesians 4:29 ESV)

Our words are supposed to be like tiny gifts to each other… little silver boxes wrapped up in bows.

My friend, I hope your life is filled with little silver boxes today.

I’ve shared encouragement like Chocolate Caramels for your Soul (go pin one, I’ll wait.)

Everyone needs a chocolate sea salt dark caramel in their day.

I’ve shared the importance of encouragement in a post titled On learning to fly.

I’d love to see you fly.

Encouragement is two sided.

As much as we need to be encouraged by others, we need to be an encourager to those around us.

Be an encourager.

I’m convinced that the world would be a better place if we had more encouragers and less criticizers.

Be encouraged.

You aren’t alone. We’re all hot messes together.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. Encouragement is *so* important. If I didn’t get encouragement from the people who love me, I don’t know where I would be today. Thank you for the wonderful information!

  2. Every one needs encouragement to do something big. You are doing a great job by writing such posts.

    Keep up the good work.

  3. The world would definitely be a better place if we had more encouragers and less criticizers. Less judgement, more support.
