Thankful Thoughts – Praying for Our Nation

Today, I’m sharing some thankful thoughts about praying for our nation.

Way back in July of 2012 when my blog was young and I was still finding my voice, I posted 2 Chronicles 7:14 as an art file in honor of Independence Day.

No words.  No commentary from me.  Just this simple artwork.

2 chronicles 7 14If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.   — 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Because my blog was new and I didn’t know any better, the post broke every Google rule that you can imagine.  The post was so SEO unfriendly that it isn’t even funny.  The ONLY thing I did right was to name the file as 2 Chronicles 714.

But it was enough.

Because of this one post, I’ve been reassured about the goodness and faithfulness of America.

Every time our nation faces an event – an election, a shooting, a terrorist event, a budget crisis, a natural disaster, a political scandal, and even an industrial accident – I see what happens.  I see people searching for 2 Chronicles 7:14.  I see people searching for how to pray for our nation.

Because I see the hits, I know that people are praying for our nation.  And I know they are doing it within MINUTES of an upheaval.

In a small way, this fact has restored my faith in humanity.

I take comfort in seeing the search results as they pop into my wordpress dashboard.  Every single time, I’m thankful.

I’m thankful because it reminds me to pause and pray. I’m thankful because I know that somewhere, someone other than me is turning to God in prayer. I’m thankful because it gives me hope and comfort.

I wanted to share this with you.  Not as a political statement.  You know me better than that.  But to give you hope and reassurance and to tell you that you aren’t alone.

Across our land, people are praying for our nation.

I thought you should know.

I hope it gives you comfort.

Blessings, susan
