Thankful Thoughts – Friendship

I’ve spent some time this afternoon having some thankful thoughts about friendship.

(ok, first i spent some time napping. then pinteresting, THEN thinking.)

It started as we walked into church (late) today.  Someone was sharing scripture.   Psalm 139 to be exact.

psalm 139

I was only half listening.  We were running late and my coffee hadn’t kicked in and the service had already started… you know, the usual.

What I heard was the description of true friendship.

Go look at it again and you’ll see what I mean.

  • knows everything about me
  • knows where I am
  • thinks about me even when I’m not around
  • know what I’m going to say before I even say it

See?  That’s pretty much my description of a good friend.

In my darkest and loneliest times, I ached for someone like that.  I longed for someone to just… KNOW me.  Really know me.   I felt so friendless and lost.

What a comfort to me to know I NEVER have to feel that way again.  No matter how alone I might feel, God KNOWS me.  And he still loves me.

Then the sermon started.

It was about…

… you guessed it.

Friendship.

That got my attention.  Since I had just been thinking about that very topic and all…

(although, now that i think about it, they probably planned the whole thing.  duh!)

Anyway, it got me thinking about how full my life is and just how many women I am friends with and how amazing those women are.

Given that my biggest fear when I became a stay at home mom was being friendless the rest of my life, that’s a big huge hairy deal for me.

I am so stinking blessed!

I spend a huge amount of time in the company of women who I genuinely enjoy being with.  They’re positive, trustworthy, and well, just downright amazing.  Every woman I know has gifts and strengths that are different than mine – and they SHARE them with me.

Just… wow.

I am so blessed.

I am so thankful.

What are you thankful for today?

I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
