Thankful Thoughts – Dads

Posted on Jun 16, 2013 in Thank | 0 comments

It’s Father’s Day.  I would be remiss if I didn’t take time today to share some thankful thoughts about dads.

Dads are amazing.

Without dads in my life, my education would be incomplete.  There would be huge gaps in what I know.  The lessons I learned at the hands of dads make me a better mom.

My dad taught me to spit.

Not a little dribble down the chin or a discreet “lady spit” into a tissue.  Nope, those wouldn’t do.  My dad took the time to teach me how to spit a watermelon seed across the yard.  He taught me to make that spit fly several feet out the car window instead of landing somewhere on the car.

Hey, I was eight.  It was a big deal.

As a mom, I’m blessed that there are manly men in own children’s lives that took time to teach them the manly art of spitting.  My husband (their dad) handles that department.  But — because my own dad taught me all about spitting long ago, I’m an appreciative audience.  I can tell you…

Thankful Thoughts – Mountains

Posted on Jun 9, 2013 in Thank | 6 comments

This week, it was really easy to think of some thankful thoughts to share.

As you might expect, I’m thankful for mountains.

Living in Houston Texas, my family and I don’t get many chances to enjoy mountains.  To be honest, we get a little excited when the land is anything other than flat.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my hometown.  There’s a lot to love about Houston. But from time to time, getting to see actual mountains is pretty cool.

I’m downright thankful for the opportunity.

Thankful Thoughts about Mountains.

For the past week, I’ve been surrounded by mountains and the overwhelming amazing beauty of our world.  I’m in awe of what God has created.  Time after time I’ve stared open mouthed in wonder.

Wow.  God made that.

psalm 36_6

I was filled with AWE.

I was filled with WONDER.

I was filled with THANKFULNESS.

psalm 90_2

Psalm 121 NIV

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

God has been so good to me.  I’m so thankful for our time in the mountains.  It has been an amazing week.  I’ve been blessed beyond measure.  Seeing the majesty of the mountains this week has truly been a gift beyond measure.

What are you thankful for?

Thankful Thoughts – Vacations

Posted on Jun 2, 2013 in Thank | 4 comments

Since I’m on vacation with my family right now, I thought I’d share some thankful thoughts about vacations.

I love to travel.

Part of it is knowing that every hotel room comes with a maid who will clean the room, make the beds, and deal with the sodden mess of wet towels on the floor.  As a mom, I have to say that this rocks.

Part of it getting to explore new parts of the world, eating new foods, seeing amazing sights.

But the biggest part is just… the vacationy part.

Thankful Thoughts – I love my school

Posted on May 19, 2013 in Thank | 3 comments

As the school year comes to a close, it seems appropriate to share some thankful thoughts on just how much I love my school and appreciate the teachers.

This has nothing to do with the fact that they’ve cared for my kids during the day for the past ten months (giving more time to be kid free and do whatever it is I do all day).  It has everything to do with the fact that my kids go to an amazing school.  I’m blessed.  My kids are blessed.  And I’m thankful.

There’s a long list of reasons why, but on my heart today are the PEOPLE that make up the school.

I love my school and appreciate the teachers.
