Mother’s Day and Minecraft

My kids make me laugh all the time.  This week, they were cracking me up about Mother’s Day and Minecraft.

As I’ve shared before, my kids play Minecraft – that lego like game with zombies.  It’s an online game where people mine for stuff and then craft it into other stuff.  (Hence the name.  Mine-Craft.  Minecraft.)

The other day, GoGo came home from school singing the Minecraft song.

GoGo:  I’m gonna play some Minecraft.  I’m gonna kill me a something dragon.  I’m gonna something something…

OK, maybe singing was generous.  He was trying to sing it, but he didn’t know the words.  He’s in first grade, so I’ll cut him a little slack.

I Googled “minecraft song” and discovered that there are over 22 different songs of the name on YouTube.  Surf with caution, because at least two of them feature profanity and obscene structures.  (yes, obscene structures out of virtual blocks.  what some people’s children get up to is beyond me.)

We didn’t find the exact Minecraft song my kids wanted.

The next day, GoGo and Watty climbed in the car all excited.

GoGo:  Mommy, we didn’t look for the right thing on YouTube.  We need to look for Minecraft FAMILY.

Watty: Yeah. Minecraft Family is so super cool.

More google foo.  I decided that while the show wasn’t anything I wanted to watch, it was fairly harmless.  (Again, watch with care.  There are multiple episodes and each is over 30 minutes long.  The kids are, at times, a tad disrespectful of their parents.  You’ve been warned.)

During the first episode there are two kids playing Minecraft with their dad.  Part of their conversation is that the kids are spending Father’s Day playing Minecraft with their dad.

That’s when things got weird.

my kids make me laughThe kids didn’t know I was listening.

Watty: Hey, you know what we should do for Mother’s Day?

GoGo:  yeah…

Watty:  We should play Minecraft with Mommy.

GoGo:  She’d love that!

(um, no.  not really.)

They have no clue what I want for Mother’s Day.  But at least they were thinking about me.

Mother’s Day and Minecraft – a perfectly logical combination if you are an elementary school boy.  Minecraft is the first thing I think about for a Mother’s Day gift.  (sigh.  where’s the sarcastic font when i really need it?)

No one has asked what I want for Mother’s Day.  It’s a given that it won’t include flowers because well… ya’ll know I don’t get flowers.

where is the sarcastic font

What do I want?

Well, this herb planter idea from Musings of a Stay At Home Mom is pretty cool.

I love the idea of starting a simple new Mother’s Day tradition (like maybe cleaning the house as a gift to me – think they’d go for that?)

I’d even go for the idea of my kids or husband writing a guest post and giving me the day off.  Hmmm…

My Kids Make Me Laugh

Ultimately, that daily laughter is the best gift of all.

How have your kids made you laugh today?  What do you think you’ll get for Mother’s Day?

  1. Minecraft for Mother’s Day. Uh…no! My boys like it too though…my oldest even made tutorials on YouTube for it.

I’d be happy with hand written letters from my kids for Mother’s Day, but I’m guessing that’s not going to happen. But I do like the cleaning the house idea. Or writing a guest post…although the only one I’d probably semi-trust here on that one is my daughter. I’ll be spending Mother’s Day on the soccer field…hubby can’t be in 3 places at once.

    • I think I’m actually going to end up spending the day alone. Hubby needs to spend some time with his mom and it just feels like the right thing to do. I’ll think of it as a mini mommy retreat, so it’s not a bad thing.

  2. Hi,
I love my mom. I really love to read your article.
    Thanks for the awesome sharing.

  3. My kids are obsessed with Minecraft. They would be thrilled if I played with them but watching it for more than 2 minutes makes me seasick.

If you want more Minecraft videos, my kids adore the series by Mary and Dad. Apparently they are riveting.

    • I’ll have to check that one out and add it to their approved You Tube feed. If they’re riveting I’ll probably end up wiping drool off their little faces. They seem to lose control around riveting videos. (eye roll)

I have to say I just don’t get the whole thing, but then again I’m not a tween boy.

  4. I have been hunting for a web design business and was wondering if you ‘ve stumbled upon anything worth recommending.Yesterday I found a company known as Strony-Internetowe-Piaseczno.pl that comes from Poland. Have you heard of them?
