My Kids Make Me Laugh – The Drunken Truth

my kids make me laugh and that fills me with joyMy kids make me laugh every day.  You know that.

But yesterday, they had one of those jaw-dropping conversations in the backseat that just about made me come unglued.  It took me until this morning to be able to laugh about this.

I wasn’t with them this weekend.  I was in Austin while they went to the deer lease with my husband.  Honestly, I’m still a little suspicious of the whole “deer lease” thing.

So imagine my response when I hear this…

Watty:  My tummy burns like it’s full of acid.

GoGo:  Oh, my tummy always feels like that when I’m drunk.

(me: uh, what?  what did my baby just say?)

Watty:  Yeah, you may be right.  I feel a little drunk.

GoGo:  When I get drunk, I always feel bad.

(me:  oh please please please don’t let this be true!)

Me:  Sweetheart, what do you mean by drunk?

Watty:  You know, when you drink too much.

GoGo:  NO! When you don’t drink ENOUGH.

(i’m having a panic attack at this point, about to pull over to make eye contact with my kids and get to the bottom of whatever happened when i wasn’t around. i’m in SHOCK that my husband would have done this!)

Watty:  Yeah, that’s it.  When I don’t drink enough.

GoGo:  Like mommy says, it’s important to drink enough to stay drunk.

(i am NEVER drinking again.  ever.  oh snot! what have i done? i am about to come unhinged and unglued.)

Me:  What did you drink?

GoGo:  You know… WATER.

Watty:  Yeah, I definitely didn’t drink enough water today.  I feel really bad.

(oh… the sweet relief. maybe there’s been some horrible misunderstanding.)

Me:  Um, are you talking about being DEHYDRATED?

GoGo:  Yes! That’s the word.

Watty:  Exactly.

(at this point my heart beat has almost returned to normal.)

Watty:  So what’s the difference between drunk and dehydrated?

GoGo:  Drunk is when you have too much to drink.  Dehydrated is when you don’t have enough.

Me:  Close enough.

So after I’ve slept on it, I can finally laugh.  If it had been someone else’s kids, I think it would be even funnier.

After we cleared up the misunderstanding on vocabulary words, Watty went in to a long monolog trying to explain his theory of stomach acid and how it ends up in your blood stream if you don’t drink any water.  I didn’t have the strength to correct him.

So how have your kids made YOU laugh this week?  I’d love to hear about it.
