James 4:8 – Draw Near to God

I recently was reading a passage in the book of James and lingered on

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (James 4:8a)

When I first read the verse, it brought a very clear memory into view. [Read more…]

Blessed

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to you and yours.  I hope your day was blessed beyond all expectations.

I’ve been busy hostessing – baking and mashing and roasting and all the fun things that come when you host family for a few days.  Now that the pies are eaten and the food is put away, I’m sitting down for the first time all day to catch my breath.

In honor of Thanksgiving AND my 15th wedding anniversary, I’m taking a day or two off from blog-land.  I’ll be back Monday (or sooner).

Are you a hostess? You deserve some M&M’s

Really.  If you are a hostess for a major holiday (like say… Thanksgiving or Christmas) you NEED to buy some M&M’s.  Trust me. Send someone out to get them while you finish reading this post.

I’ll wait.

Ready?

Good.

The Journey to Thanksgiving (part3)

I’ve been on this multi-day journey to Thanksgiving. It started when I asked a group of bloggers to share their best post on thankfulness.

In a season of hectic cooking and cleaning, I was hoping for a little breath of fresh air.  What I got was a hurricane.  It’s absolutely changed my heart and renewed my soul.

After the first two days, I wasn’t quite sure what God had in store for me. (You may not believe it, but I’ve listed the blogs in the EXACT order that they were given to me.)

The Journey to Thanksgiving (part2)

It started when I asked other bloggers to share their own Thanksgiving stories. It became a journey of gratitude and transformation.

I only made it through five posts yesterday, but those posts changed my heart.

I have to admit that I approached the remaining list of posts shared by fellow bloggers with a mixture of fear, expectation, and awe.

The Journey to Thanksgiving (part 1)

I wanted to do something a little different for Thanksgiving this year.  I asked a blogging group to share their favorite posts on the subject.

From the very first post that was shared, I knew it was going to be amazing journey of thankfulness, conviction, and heart change.

Exactly what I needed in the frantic cook-and-clean marathon leading up to Thanksgiving Day.

#mkmml Cartoon Turkeys

Yes. My Kids Make Me Laugh. Only, since that’s too long to work as a hashtag, I’m going with #MKMML.

Today, it’s about cartoon turkeys.

Don’t worry, I didn’t know what one was either. Not until my sons explained it. [Read more…]

Why Authenticity Matters

I’m continuing the theme of authenticity this week.  I’m so thankful I had the courage to write on this topic! The comments you all have left have been so encouraging for me.

Thank you for that.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone in the struggle between Authentic and Unfiltered.

my kids make me laugh (again) #mkmml

Long ago, I wrote regular feature on Tuesdays called My Kids Make Me Laugh (MKMML). The premise was that taking time to notice the everyday antics of my kids and laugh with them helped me treasure my boys in whatever phase they happened to be in. Beyond that, it was supposed to encourage you to do the same.

You can go look, there’s a whole categories devoted to MKMML posts. Some of them are awesome. Some of them are, quite frankly, not.

When I looked at the awesome ones, it made me wonder what I quit writing them.  Then I looked at the “less than awesome” ones and I remembered. [Read more…]
