Five Minute Friday – Writer

Here we are, back at Five Minute Friday!  Today is the day I write for the sake of writing.  I love this day.

Today’s writing prompt is in celebration of Lisa-Jo Baker’s book SURPRISED BY MOTHERHOOD.  It launched on April 1st and promptly sold out on Amazon.  I wrote about it on Tuesday, remember?

Since I have an extra copy, I thought I’d give it away.  Scroll down past Five Minute Friday and get the details.

Today’s writing prompt is… WRITER.

Five Minute Friday

I. am. a. writer.

Every time I think the thought, my heart swells with joy.  I get a rush of thrill and excitement.  I may not show it, but my insides are doing a happy dance.

I am a lover of words, a student of ideas, a connoisseur of phrases.

I am a creator of something new.

Sometimes, the phrase is whispered, like a promise or a prayer.

Sometimes, it is said through clenched teeth of determination.

But each time, I remember the promise and the joy.

Each time I steal away to write, it is a celebration.

Even when the words are slow to come and the guilt is huge, I celebrate that I am strong… strong enough to keep my promise to myself, strong enough to not quit, strong enough to do what is hard.

When the words are hard, ripped from my soul, they leave a hollow spot where they once were.  I celebrate their beauty knowing they were born from ugliness and pain.  I cherish their promise to heal – not just my own heart but the heart of another.

When the words are easy, they spill out onto the page in a joyous riot.  Their undisciplined dance across the screen resists all efforts to tame them into respectable prose.  I leave them there, the blank spaces on the page serving as a larger space for the joyous dance and celebration.

I am a writer.

Five Minute Friday  is hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker on her blog. Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

Other voices on the same writing prompt can be found on Lisa’s blog – go check out a few!

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.  Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. The Giveaway:

I have ONE copy I’m happy to ship to anywhere in the US.  I’d be happy to ship it anywhere in the world, but my tiny budget says I have to restrict this to the US.

I bought it on Amazon.  I couldn’t wait for it to arrive, so I bought it for the Kindle.    Since the book is sold out and hard to find, I thought it would be a perfect time to give my extra copy away.

This giveaway ends MONDAY – because I know the winner wants her copy as soon as she can get it.

I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
