Five Minute Friday – Write

It’s Five Minute Friday!  My favorite writing time of the week.

Last time the word was HERO.

Today’s writing prompt is… WRITE.

five minute friday write

This is the second Five Minute Friday post I’ve written on write.  The first was last October.  I had fun comparing the two.

Five Minute Friday

Write.

You can always spot a writer.  She’s the one with a tattered notebook buried in the bottom of her bag.  In a crowded room, she’s the one scribbling ideas into the margin of her program.  In the quiet spaces of her day, words happen.

Even if she doesn’t see herself as a writer, she is.

Even if she never shares her words with others, she is.

Even if the only thing she ever writes is a life of journal entries, she is.

In the life of a writer, words matter.  Ideas swirl around in the head.  Stories take on a life of their own.

The title of writer isn’t conferred by a college.  It isn’t earned with the publication of a book.  It has nothing to do with the number of people who read our words.  It doesn’t require a tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows.

Being a writer simply means “one who writes.”

For years, I would scribble my words in the margins.  I didn’t think they were worthy of a fresh sheet of paper.  They would collect in the bottom of my bag until they were ceremoniously dumped into the trash when the weight of my words was more than I could comfortably carry.

Even then, I was a writer.

STOP.

i am a writer

Five Minute Friday  is hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama. Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.  Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love
