Do you hear what I hear? Christmas Phrases.

Christmas vacation is almost over at our house and quite frankly, I’m ready for everyone to get back on the normal schedule.

But until then… let’s play a fun game.  Do you hear what I hear?

do you hear what i hea

Over the past two weeks, things have gotten a bit predictable.  The boys have had the same fight at least a dozen times.  I’m quite sure I’ve seen every episode of Phineas and Ferb at least twice.  I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve picked up the same exact pair of dirty socks from the floor.

To amuse myself (and hopefully you) I’ve made a list of the top five phrases my boys have used over Christmas break.  I want to know if you’ve heard them too.

The Christmas Vacation List

  1.  “He pooted.”  I have two boys that find body noises and smells the very height of comedy.   If you want to see my kids giggle all night, just serve them a dinner that includes applesauce and beans.

  2.  “Look under there.”  When my kids say this, the only response they want is for me to look at them in puzzlement and say “under where?”  At that point, they dissolve into laughter as they point at me and say “underwear… you said underwear.”  I’d like to apologize for all the times I asked my parents to spell words like cattle, support, attitude, and zapped.

  3.  “But I don’t HAVE a bedtime.” Because my kids have had such a strict bed time during the school year, we told them they could stay up as late as they wished over Christmas break.  I’m not sure that was the best idea.

  4.  “Can I have a snack?”  It doesn’t matter how much I feed them, they’re hungry two hours later.  If it isn’t nailed down, my kids have probably eaten it.

  5.  “Where’s the elf?”  In the days leading up to Christmas, our elf made a grand tour of the house.  We figured out we don’t have to move her quite as often if we hide her better.   I was particularly fond of hiding her in a drawer.  That took them over a DAY to find.  The downside was that I heard them asking about the elf… a lot.

top 5 christmas vacation phrases

With the exception of the elf comment, I’m not sure how different this would be from a list for ANY vacation right now.  It’s just what you get with boys this age (and maybe girls… I honestly don’t know.)

So what about you?  What did you hear a wee bit too often over Christmas break?
