Chocolate Caramels for your Soul

Last week, I shared a challenge to give Grace as freely as we give candy for Halloween.  I also revealed my deep dark love of chocolate caramel.  So it seems only logical that I offer you some chocolate caramels for your soul.

In my world, dark chocolate caramel sea salted supremes are better than chicken soup.

Sometimes, all I really want is a few blissful moments hidden in the pantry as I savor a secret chocolate.  What I REALLY need is a mom time out with one of these goodies instead.

Chocolate Caramels for Your Soul.

I encourage you to pin one or two of these as the start of a board of chocolate caramels for your soul.  I’ll be a happy pinner this afternoon after church. 🙂

Wise people are careful and stay out of trouble, but fools are careless and quick to act.  Someone with a quick temper does foolish things, but someone with understanding remains calm.  Proverbs 14:16-17

Lord, I want to be someone with understanding.  Help me to be someone who remains calm.

proverbs 14 16-17

But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.  Since God chose you to be a holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Colossians 3:8, 12

Lord, help me to let go of any anger or rage I’m feeling.  I don’t want to let dirty language come out of my mouth!  Please help me to be tenderhearted, filled with kindness and gentleness and patience.

colossians 3 8 12

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.  Proverbs 4:23

Lord, guard my heart.  More than that, guard my mouth.  Guard my children’s hearts.

proverbs 4 23

Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.  2 Timothy 2:23

Lord, let me just walk away.  Help me to let it go.  Protect me from the foolish and ignorant arguments, even the ones in my own head!  I don’t really want to start a fight.  Help!

2 timothy 2 23

The wise are patient; they will be honored if they ignore insults.  Proverbs 19:11

Lord, I want to be wise.  Help me to ignore insults and hurts.  Help me to show patience and to honor you.

proverbs 19 11

Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you.  Instead, pay them back with a blessing. This is what God has called you to do and he will bless you for it.  1 Peter 3:9

Lord, help me to respond in ways that bless others, even when they have been sassy or rude or disrespectful.  Help me to respond in ways that honor YOU Father, even when I feel like they may not deserve it.

1 peter 3 9

People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.  Proverbs 14:29

Lord, help me to control my anger.  In this quiet instant, grant me the understanding I need to see this through your eyes.  Father, help me to control my hot temper!

proverbs 14 29

  1. I love the final quote you left us with because you’re so right we can’t make ourselves into the people we long to be in our hearts. At least, I can’t be the person I wish to be, even though I definitely try. I love the images that you’ve created on this post too. Thank you for sharing.

    • Crystal – 🙂 I’m so glad to see your face on my blog again! I’ve missed your comments.

The final quote is from Thomas A Kempis. He’s best known as the monk who wrote The Imitation of Christ. It’s a tough read, but a classic. Wikipedia claims that his book is the most widely read devotional after the Bible.

As for the graphics, I’ve been collecting scriptures for this series for quite awhile. When I sat down to start making the art for this post, there were more of them than I realized. I had FUN making them all. It helped that I had to download some new art to get the chocolate candies and found the pretty pink and brown backgrounds at the same time.
