Five Minute Friday – SHE

It’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

This week the word is SHE.

Last week, the word was MERCY.  It’s in honor of Mercy House.  Just… go click it.

Five Minute Friday

My normal morning routine is like yours.  The alarm goes off, I hit the snooze button, it goes off again, and I check my iPhone for important overnight developments.

After I’ve checked Facebook, emails, my blog spam, and Pinterest I can face the day.

On Fridays, I peek to see what THE WORD is.  My husband always asks.  It’s kind of interesting to talk to him later in the day as he tells me what he THOUGHT I would say verses what I actually say.

Then I slip back into the normal morning rush of making breakfasts, packing lunches, kissing noses, and stuffing backpacks.

Once the kids and husband are out the door, I can settle into my favorite blogging chair with a good cup of coffee.  The words begin to rush out of my head and onto the screen as I blog.

This morning, my reaction to SHE was… uncharacteristic.

Normally, I love the writing prompts.  I’m excited.  They are FUN.

Today, I said

In my head, I heard the whispered “she” behind my back.

And then, the magic happened.  While I was busy scrambling eggs and signing papers, SHE spoke.

A dear friend spoke.  She broke her silence of ten long months!  After an unexpected and unexplained silence on her blog, she posted again.

And my world became a little brighter.

I sat and drank in every word she wrote.  Twice.  I cried to remember how horrible it is when fear steals our words.  I wanted to stand up and cheer at her courage to return to us.

She is back.

She is good.

She is strong.

She is amazing.

She wonders “do I really have anything to say?”  (you do my dear.  your words will be more interesting for your journey over the past year.)

She wonders “what in the world did I think I had to share?”  (just share the honest journey.  tell your story.  no one else can.)

She wonders “As messed up as I am, did I really have the nerve to think I could blog something useful for other women?”  (your words are useful for me.  making a difference in the life of just ONE woman may not be much, but i’m hoping it’s enough for today.)

She is my friend.  My sister in words.  I’ve never seen her face to face.  But I’ve missed her dearly.
