Five Minute Friday – Small

It’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

The last time I participated, the word was PRESENT.  That was a month ago.  The last month has been… challenging to say the least.

This week, the word is SMALL.

Five Minute Friday

Small.

I’m learning now that big things are made up of small things.

The really big messes are just a pile of small things piled together.

The really big mistake started with a small one.

The big huge temptation started with a small choice.

The big goal of losing 50 pounds is really a series of smaller “lose 2 pounds this week” goals.

The big dream is achieved by taking small steps every day.

Small.

When I master the small parts of my life, the big ones fall into place.

It is the smallest habits – five minutes of prayer to start my day, a glass of water before lunch, a welcome home kiss at the door – that make the difference.

It is the small choices.  By frugally managing my last $20 in cash I grew to manage more.  As I learned to keep my kitchen sink clean I developed habits that spread.  By putting five minutes a day into reading I finished a 500 page book on the installment plan.

Small.

Like the massive structures built from tiny bricks, so my life is built on the smallest of things.

Small.

small matters

STOP.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. LOVE THIS! It is so true. Too often we only see the forest through the trees. We get overwhelmed by the BIG picture, and forget that the picture is in the details and every little item serves its purpose. Makes me think of a recent sermon on 1 Corinthians 12. Thank you for inspiring coffee-cup reading this morning! ~JuliAnne

love it! Thanks for the reminder!

  3. Love this, Susan!! Your words ring so true. Many blessings!

  4. I love this SO MUCH. It’s just so true and I lose sight of that sometimes. (Especially the one about the weight. It feels so daunting for me to think about the big picture, but broken up into little amounts it feels doable) Thanks for this reminder! –Lisa
