True Confessions: I invited another man…

I’ve made several other true confessions on my blog before this one.

Like… that I’m afraid of my pressure cooker.   And… that famous red high heeled shoe incident.  And even… my worst date ever.

Today I’d like to confess to sending a text to another man with (gasp) my hotel room number.

True Confession

I’ve deleted all evidence, but two years ago, some time this month, I sent a text to “K” that read

I’m in the Cozy Motel in room 212.  Come on up as soon as you can.  I need you!

You want to know the worst part?  K was a regular attendee in our Sunday School group.  So was his wife…and his sister-in-law and her husband… and even his father-in-law and his wife.

K was a good enough buddy with my husband that they were talking about going hunting together.

For those friends who know me and know K… please read the entire story before you start to put us on every prayer list that you can think of.

K was also in the process of destroying my home.

Now that you’ve gone and gotten the wrong idea about everything, let me explain.

K was our contractor during our remodel.  We stayed in our home as long as we could during the early stages of the remodel (the part when they destroy everything).    Then we moved into our RV.

Our RV developed one of those problems that required a trip to the repair place overnight.  Somehow, not having air conditioning in the Texas summer just wasn’t working for me.

It was when I walked outside to the 102 degree afternoon and realized it was COOLER than the inside of the RV that I realized how ridiculous things were.

So, hubby hooked up the RV and hauled it to the repair place.  I loaded the kids into my car and found us somewhere to stay for a few days.  By the time I got the kids to the hotel, got us checked in, got all our stuff into the room, and then schlepped half of it to the cheap hotel swimming pool for the kids… well… I was a bit frazzled.

I was done.

Done with being a mom.  Done with the remodel thing.  Done.

I just wanted to run away.

That’s when I sent a message to K.

Except, it wasn’t supposed to be to him at all!

I had intended on texting my husband to let him know what hotel we were at.  I was going to tell him I needed him to come “home” so I could get about thirty minutes of peace in the hotel lobby.

Oh the glamorous life of a remodeling survivor… so many bad hotel carpets.  sigh.

Imagine my horror when I realized I had just sent a strange man my hotel room number!  Imagine even more horror at the thought of looking this man in the eyes at church.  Giggle.

Did I mention he was also our volunteer children’s pastor at the time?  My kids call him “Pastor K.”

Y’all… I wanted to crawl in a hole and pull the dirt in over my head.  At the end of a long and stressful week, it was just NOT what I wanted to deal with.  So I did the most logical thing I could think of.  I made it someone else’s problem.

I quickly called my husband to tell him what had happened.  I was mortified, but my husband assured me it was no big deal and that he understood.  He and K had a good laugh at my expense and straightened the whole thing out.

true confessions another man

Yes.  I sent a text message inviting my children’s pastor (and contractor) up to my hotel room and my husband just laughed about it.

My name is Susan, and that’s my true confession.

    • I’m so glad my humiliation could entertain you. 🙂

You notice it took OVER A YEAR of blogging before I shared this. I had to make sure I was loved before I could share my trauma….

No.. seriously… I’d totally forgotten about the incident until I mis-texted again last week. I sent a text to a friend that was meant for a hubby. After we cleared up confusion, her comment was “at least it was ‘G’ rated!” That reminded me of my humiliation and I realized it was the PERFECT thing to share on my blog.

Seriously… who among us hasn’t sent a text to the wrong person before.

  2. Hilarious! A perfectly innocent message to your husband takes a huge left turn! I love your warning to people who know both you and K to read the entire post before starting to panic – or question your sanity!

I really like your blog and I really appreciate your honesty. Wow, you have so much courage to tell us about what happened. Honestly I’ve done the same with you. I have sent a message that was intended for my husband to another man but I still haven’t told him. I’ve got no courage to tell him. I am afraid he will get mad at me. Anyway, I am hoping to read more from your blog. Cheers to you!
