Thankful Thoughts – I love my school

As the school year comes to a close, it seems appropriate to share some thankful thoughts on just how much I love my school and appreciate the teachers.

This has nothing to do with the fact that they’ve cared for my kids during the day for the past ten months (giving more time to be kid free and do whatever it is I do all day).  It has everything to do with the fact that my kids go to an amazing school.  I’m blessed.  My kids are blessed.  And I’m thankful.

There’s a long list of reasons why, but on my heart today are the PEOPLE that make up the school.

I love my school and appreciate the teachers.

the teachers are awesome

1.  I’m thankful for the grace of my son’s first grade teacher.  For her birthday, GoGo wanted to give her a game from our game cabinet because he knew she loved to play games with him.   Unfortunately, GoGo picked  a game that was clearly used and missing a few pieces.  I did the only thing I knew to do. I tucked the game into a cute tote bag from Thirty One Gifts.  She never missed a beat. (that’s a link to my page, mkay?)

2.  I’m thankful for the heart of our lunch lady.  She knows both my boys well enough to remember which one prefers chips over cookies (and vice versa).  She knows my kids well enough to know when they’re struggling and in need of a hug.

3.  I’m thankful for the sweet spirit of our school nurse.  I’ve seen her holding a trashcan for a sick child and the woman didn’t even flinch.  She’s amazing.

4.  I’m thankful for the wisdom of our librarian.  She has helped both my boys discover books in the library that are a perfect fit for them.   She knows my kids and their reading preferences.  Not just my kids, but every child in the school.  That amazes me.

5.  I’m thankful for the sense of humor that is evidenced by the third grade teachers.  All three of them.  Even when Watty brought bones to school.  Nothing phases those ladies.  They coral a wild herd of boys on a daily basis and never miss a beat.

I could list a thousand more reasons.  It’s an amazing school.

Our first year there, when Watty was in Kindergarten, we had a rough year.  I was amazed when teachers I didn’t even know would stop me to offer an encouraging word and tell me that they were praying for my son.

There simply no words to express how much that meant.

I am thankful.

i appreciate the teachers

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  2. This is a really touching post. I’m not long out of school and I remember the hard work put in by my elementary school teachers. While there were some that weren’t the most agreeable, they all put in as much effort as they could, and I feel as if I never thanked them enough for it.
