Five Minute Friday – Here

five minute friday hereIt’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker at The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

Last week, the word was AFTER

This week, the word is HERE.

Five Minute Friday

HERE.

Here I sit, in the quiet after the storm.

The first hour of my day is regimented into 5 minute increments.  Another tick of the clock, another milestone to check on… and endlessly remind.

Did you put your socks on?

Have you finished your breakfast?

Are the papers signed?

Is that the dress code today?

Where is your lunch box.

they leaveAll the energy of chaos of two growing boys and a full grown man – rushing and stumbling as they dress, eat, and pack their things for the day.  All the noise of a mom as they get distracted by shiny objects along the way.

And then they rush out.  They leave so fast that they leave a vacuum in their wake.  They suck the sound (and life) right out of the house.

And here is sit.

The house isn’t silent.

But it’s been given over to the gentle repetitive sounds of the day.  The washer, the dryer, the dishwasher, the distant murmur of a forgotten radio.

Empty, lonely sounds.

Here I sit.

letters make wordsThe click of my keyboard and the purr of the cat sound loud now.

The words settle.   They fill my brain and flow out my fingers.  With steady sureness, the letters parade across the page and make words — sentences – paragraphs – ideas.

Here I sit.

Filling the empty vacuum with my own world.  The sounds of cleaning, the parade of words, the gentle motion of the cat as she settles on my shoulder.

Their vacuum left me space to expand.

Here.  In my home.

Here.

STOP.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
