My Kids Make Me Laugh When I’m Sick

My kids make me laugh, even when I’m sick.  They do it almost every day and I try to pick the best of the week and share it with you on Tuesdays.

(originally when i started this feature i was worried i’d run out of content.  i no longer worry.)

we're having a giveawayIf you follow me on Twitter or Facebook (and you should! right now it will get you a contest entry) then you know that my family was sick this past weekend.  We didn’t even all have the same bug, so it was particularly miserable.

Since my husband is sitting mere feet away, I’ll have to wait before sharing my thoughts on his man cold.  It’s hard to be snarky when he’s still in the room. [Read more…]

My Blogging Chair

I’m sitting in my favorite chair, a space the kids call my blogging chair.  I never intended for it to become “my” chair.

I always thought it was silly to hear people talk about a spot in the house that belonged to just them or to have a chair that no one else in the family was allowed to sit in.  I never got it.

But there’s this chair.  I doesn’t face the television, so no one else really wants it.  It has easy access to a power supply.  It gets great morning light.  I can see out the back window.

And it just kind of works.  When I’m alone, it’s peaceful.  When the kids are here, I know where they are and can supervise them.  When the television is on, I can put my headphones on and not be distracted.

Over time, it became “my chair.” [Read more…]

Thankful Thoughts (even when things are icky)

Today isn’t going like I thought, but that doesn’t mean I can’t share some thankful thoughts with you.  Today has turned out to be kind of icky (ok, REALLY icky).  Even in these circumstances, there are things I’m thankful for.

I’m just going to share what I’m thankful for this morning – I think you’ll know why my day is disrupted.

10 Things I Can Be Thankful For

thankful thoughts when life is icky(even when things aren’t going as planned)

1.  Toilet paper.  To be more specific, really soft toilet paper.

2. My Washer and Dryer.  They work. The washer has a much-needed sanitize feature that I’m oh-so-thankful for today. [Read more…]

Blissdom Bliss – UnMarketing Giveaway

Today’s Blissdom Bliss is from my notes on Scott Stratten’s Keynote address. It includes a giveaway.

(this is part 5 of the series, in case you lost track.)

I have to confess. I had no idea who this guy was when he stood up to speak. All I knew was that he tweeted – a LOT. He was more enjoyable to follow on twitter than most. And that he had a book.

(disclosures: Scott gave each of us a book in our SWAG bags. I’ve exchanged tweets with Scott and was a total geek about it.)

Now that I know… I think he’s awesome.  I’m giving away some of his awesomeness because I want to share. [Read more…]

My Five Pet Peeves for Bloggers and Blogging

I’m not an expert on bloggers and blogging. My own blog hasn’t even had it’s first blog-a-versary.  But I spend hours each week looking at other blogs.

Over the past year, I estimate I’ve spent over a thousand hours on other people’s blogs.

That’s enough time to develop a few pet peeves.

If you think I’m talking about your blog… maybe I am. I don’t want to hurt your feelings.  But as a friend, I have to tell you this. Sometimes, I have a hard time reading your blog. I want to. The words are fabulous. But sometimes, the structure of your blog gets in the way.

Here’s my pet peeves for bloggers and blogging. [Read more…]

Dear Cat Sitting in the Dark

Dear Cat Sitting in the Dark –

It’s 4 am.  I did NOT get up to feed you.  Please quit meowing at me from the food bowl.

You know the routine around here.  It’s been the same for years.  The alarm goes off, people wake up, people get dressed, then people feed you while they wait for coffee.

dear cat

Did you HEAR an alarm go off?

Am I dressed?

Oh and don’t think bumping your head against my bare foot is going to change my mind.  Nice try kitty, but your cold wet nose isn’t helping your cause.

Cat, it’s like this. [Read more…]

My Husband Makes Me Laugh – Engineering Disease

I know I normally talk about how my kids make me laugh, but this week it’s all about how my husband makes me laugh. The kids were funny, but he was funnier.

If you don’t remember, my husband has issues.  He has something I call “engineering disease.”  It’s been well documented in a series of posts.

Thankful Thoughts – Praying for Our Nation

Today, I’m sharing some thankful thoughts about praying for our nation.

Way back in July of 2012 when my blog was young and I was still finding my voice, I posted 2 Chronicles 7:14 as an art file in honor of Independence Day.

No words.  No commentary from me.  Just this simple artwork. [Read more…]
