How to pick a good phone game for your child

find a good phone game for your childAfter yesterday’s post where I confessed to being a virtual chicken killer, I thought I’d weigh in on my theory for how to pick a good phone game for your child.

I spent some time thinking about Smurfs, Chickens, and Pavlov.

(pavlov and his dogs are famous.  slot machines and many video games use what pavlov and his salivating dogs learned.  it’s how they turn your kids into salivating video game junkies. honest.)

I figure since I’m an avid video game player myself, I have a unique perspective on the subject.  We own both iOS and Android devices, and this applies easily to both.

We also own more than one console gaming system.  Those are great, but they don’t fit in my purse.

My Kids Make Me Laugh – Chicken Farming

my kids make me laugh about chicken farmingMy kids make me laugh on a daily basis, particularly when they are chicken farming.  You see, I’ve been accused of being a chicken killer.

No, “chicken farming” isn’t a euphemism for something shady.  It’s just that my kids developed an addiction for farming, and I was completely oblivious to it until I’d killed a few chickens.

It all started with a screen ban. [Read more…]

Mothering Mischief on my phone

By now, you know I love my mothering mischief.  Yesterday’s post on how thankful I am for my phone inspired a confession.

I have some of the worst photos of my kids on my phone!

It’s not that I’m a bad photographer, honest.  I can actually take some great photos when I need to.  (I can also take some really bad ones, but everyone does that).

No, these photos are the results of some mothering mischief.

Thankful Thoughts – My Phone

Thankful thoughts about my phone.Today’s Thankful Thoughts post is being typed on my phone. All the artwork is being generated on my phone. It’s only appropriate for me to be expressing thankfulness for my phone.

(edited: I did not post this until I got home because I needed to make sure the post looked right.  it’s the first time i ever did a post completely on the phone and i didn’t trust the process. with a little html knowledge or advance planning, it’s totally do-able.)

Top 10 reasons I’m thankful for my phone.

S is for spring and snake and song.

If you decide to garden…

if you decide to put in a spring gardenI thought about a spring garden this week, but then I realized it could be dangerous.

Yes, you heard it hear first.  Gardening can be dangerous to your health.

Particularly if it involves gardening with the family, like I’d be doing this week while the kids are on spring break.

So before you take advantage of all the free labor you have available for pulling weeds and hauling big bags of mulch, Consider the risks of spring gardening.

Don’t believe me?  Just listen to my cautionary tale.  It’s inspired by a mouse and cookie.

Spring Break Survival Tips

It’s mid-way through spring break for us and I’m still here.   And while we’re still on a zero budget stay-cation, at least my husband has lifted the screen ban.

For those of you who are mentally counting the hours until your kids are back in school, I wanted to offer a few tips to help you make it through the week in style. [Read more…]

My Kids Make Me Laugh – In the backyard

my kids make me laugh in the backyardMy kids make me laugh, and I’m hoping it’s enough to get us through a week long zero budget stay cation (with very limited screen time).

Yesterday’s laughter occurred in the backyard.  The boys were swimming and contrary to what you might assume, I did NOT engage in any mischief.  They had it covered all on their own. [Read more…]

Mothering Mischief in the pool

mothering mischief in the poolOnce again, I’m engaging in a little mothering mischief today.

It’s spring break. It’s Texas. And we’re blessed enough to have a swimming pool in the back yard.

I know it sounds crazy to some of you, but for us, that means cranking up the pool heater and tossing the kids into the pool.

(we might see temperatures in the mid-seventies, but the without heating, the water hovers in the low fifties. brrr!)

As long as I keep bringing out snacks and toss out a few pool toys, my boys will stay in the water until they are prunes.

They’ve asked me if I can install a TV outside so they can hang out in the hot tub and watch cartoons all day. [Read more…]
