Top Nine Things I’m Learning At Blissdom

what i've learned at blissdom so farI’m learning a ton at Blissdom this week.  It’s huge and overwhelming and there are things I want to change right this minute.  But the conference isn’t even over.  I need the dust to settle.

I promise I won’t post endlessly* about my fabulous blogging conference and all the free stuff… blah blah blah.  I know not all of you are bloggers and don’t even care.

edited:  I’m continuing to post what I’ve learned at Blissdom.  The next post dishes on Jon Acuff’s #5club event.  Go look!

(but if i’m honest, i’m most excited about the new grape-apple flavor of GoGo squeeZ i’m bringing home for my kids.)

But if you’ve ever been ANY kind of conference, I think you’ll find this funny.  Honest.

(Since 33% of this list is about smart-phones, it means I really did do an entire week of posts devoted to my phone.  I bet you thought I couldn’t do it.)

Top Nine Things I’m Learning at Blissdom (so far)

  1.  Most mom bloggers run on coffee.  We’re moms.  Our breakfasts are being provided by coffee companies.  Seattle’s Best Coffee and Gevalia Coffee rock for loving us enough to fuel us up with all the coffee we can drink.  Seriously, without coffee I don’t think this group of moms would last through the conference.

  2.  We’re attached to our smart phones.  Seriously attached.  When our keynote speaker (Scott Stratton – he was amazing) asked us what we would rather lose at the mall – our kids or our smart phones – there was a pause as we all did the mental calculation.  Seriously, my kids can find their way to lost and found.  My phone won’t.  I know it’s wrong, but I’d almost rather lose my kids.  ALMOST.

if you crow with the roosters you can't howl with the wolves3.  If you crow with the roosters, you can’t howl with the wolves.  I was up at an absurdly early hour Friday morning (3:30am, don’t ask).  I did NOT last until 8pm Friday night.  This would go a long way to understanding number 1.

  1.  When they say to wear comfortable shoes, they mean it.  (#aff) I’ve worn my Striiv pedometer.  I’m averaging almost FIVE MILES each day and never leaving the hotel.  Yeah.

  2.  I am a book fiend.  Every single speaker has a book that is for sale.  I want them all.  Even the ones I already own digitally.

  3.  You can rule the world with a smart phone.  Honest.  I’ve seen ladies doing ah-maz-ing things using their phones.  I think one woman was leveraging a hostile takeover.  Another one appeared to be launching an entire e-store of hand crafted items.  Just… wow.

  4.  Lifestyle bloggers have it rough.  Just think about it.  The fashion bloggers had to wear fashionable shoes.  The crafting bloggers all had modge-podged office supplies.  The sewing bloggers had made their clothes.  The clean eating bloggers had to hide in the bathroom to eat their free cookies.  I love my perfect sisters, but I’m glad I’m an authentic mess (and i may have been wrong about the cookies).

  5. You can make friends fast with a Mophie.  Remember my cool toy that can fit in my pocket and charge my phone?  It’s a great way to make friends with with other cell-phone addicted bloggers.

  6.  A list with only nine points rocks.  I bet you are annoyed that I didn’t make it to 10. (thanks to Jon Acuff for sharing that little tip).

So what did I miss?  What’s Number Ten?

  • ps – remember where i promised not to blog endlessly about Blissdom?  i may end up writing a short series on it.  there are some amazing things i’ve learned that apply to EVERYONE, not just bloggers.  i’d love to share them with you!

PSS – send coffee.

  1. GENIUS idea to wear a pedometer! Wish I would have thought to do that after the 63 trips back to the room. Now I don’t feel so guilty about that key lime pie.

  4. Oh my goodness, #7 was seriously laugh out loud funny. I’m getting strange looks from the people around me at the gym. Cute graphics!

  5. Love your comment section – how it asks for your twitter name. 🙂 Sign of a serious social media addict. Like that.

I may not have run in to you at Blissdom (or I might have – I was taking peekshurs) – but HOWDY to another H-town Texan mama. I live in Austin now, but get back to Houston as often as I can.

Love your little graphics. So true about the early birds and late night owls. I went to bed at 2am from Wednesday through Friday nights and HAD to get in bed by midnight Saturday. It took me DAYS of sleeping in after I got home to feel like I was rested enough. Then the photo editing burned my retinas out. But I love Blissdom. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

So glad you came and enjoyed yourself! Hope you’ll come back next year!

    • My comment section is powered by CommentLuv – and I love it. Thanks for noticing!

I promise I’ll waive as I drive thru Austin. Both are awesome cities with some amazing eats.

      I’ll be back. Trust me.
