Five Minute Friday – Beloved

five minute fridayIt’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

Squeee!!!

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

Last week, the word was BARE.

This week, the word is BELOVED.

Five Minute Friday

Beloved.  Be-loved. Be loved.

(oh, i got nothing on this one.)

What do I do that makes me be loved?

(i like feeling loved, i want more of it.  surely there has to be something i can do to make people love me more.)

What is it I do that makes people love me – I want to keep doing it.

(i’m secretly afraid that if you knew me you wouldn’t love me.)

I want it.  I want to be loved.

(i want to be beloved.)

And the answer hits me like a ton of bricks.

Nothing.

Love is unearned, undeserved.  It is a welcome gift that can not be demanded.

If I am to be loved, it is through grace and not by works.

The answer doesn’t satisfy. It doesn’t give comfort.  It leaves me feeling powerless and vulnerable.

(i do not wish to be loved on a whim of fate alone.)

Reason speaks

(or perhaps i am merely seeking a loophole from grace)

To be loved, give love.

(will i be beloved for loving?  will being loving make me be loved?)

Yes.

STOP.

Five Minute Friday

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  2. You are the second person I’ve read that mentions earning the position of ‘beloved’. It’s so true. We do that don’t we.

What a gift God has given us.
