Five Minute Friday – Bare

five minute fridayIt’s Five Minute Friday, hosted by The Gypsy Mama.  Five minutes of free writing flash mob goodness.

If you aren’t familiar, the rules are simple.  Lisa-Jo Baker gives a single word writing prompt every Friday.   Each of us have five minutes to write and post.  No editing, no second guessing, no fancy stuff.  Just plain writing – straight from the heart. (click HERE for the official rules and details).  Then we go visit other participants and shower them with comment love.

Last week, the word was AFRAID.

This week, the word is BARE.

Five Minute Friday

All I can think of is my little toddler, running bare ended through the grass and screaming with glee.  I can picture him, laughing as he ran from me and yelling “chase me mommy!”

I remember the smell of his warm bare skin when I caught him and wrapped him in a towel.

I remember the flush of his sun drenched skin and the sparkle in his eyes.

I can still feel his squirminess as he struggled to break free and run once again.  I remember his soft head snuggled into the crook of my neck at the same time.

I can still hear his sweet voice, whispering “catch me mommy – one more time” as the squirms subsided into drowsy stillness.

I remember my little boy drifting to sleep in my arms.  Bare and naked except for the towel, his fingers entwined in my hair.

One perfect moment.  Forever locked in this mommas heart.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. What a beautiful word picture you have painted. My youngest is five now but his toddler years of running naked around the house are still fresh in this momma’s memory. Visiting from Lisa Jo’s 🙂

  2. What a perfect way to always think of bare – there is nothing like the freedom of a child. Love this

    • Marissa, it was all I could think of. Now that I’m reading other responses for Five Minute Friday I’m amazed at how many different places we all went with this.
