My Kids Make Me Laugh – Socks

My Kids Make Me LaughMy kids make me laugh, and it’s now officially “sock week” at ThisHappyMom.com.

It’s a spontaneous sock week, but I can’t help myself.  Given how many posts I wrote about eggs, this shouldn’t come as a big shock.  You guys know how I am, right?

Yes, my kids made me laugh about socks this week.

I sent GoGo back upstairs to get some socks and he came down grumbling.

GoGo:  Mommy, I can’t find socks that match.

Me:  Well, those are pretty close.  They just have different colored heels.  When you have shoes on, no one will know.

(i haven’t bought new socks in six months – pure matches are hard to come by. and now that the kids are being made to put their own laundry away, it’s not getting better.)

GoGo:  But I’ll know!  And my blue foot will run faster than my red foot.

(say what?  what did this child just say?)

Me:  If you think one foot is faster than the other then swap socks.

GoGo:  You don’t understand.

(you can say that again kid.  i am clueless what you are talking about.)

Me:  Explain it to me.

GoGo:  Blue is faster than red.  I don’t like the red sock because it slows me down.

(why is blue faster than red?  no.  wait.  i don’t want to ask.)

Me:  Well then you have a choice.

GoGo:  What?

Me:  You can either find matching socks or live with what you have.

GoGo:  Alright.  I can live with it.

I ended up buying new socks.

Later in the same day, GoGo was once again grumbling about his socks.

GoGo:  Mommy, I really don’t like this sock.

Me:  Which one?

(as if i didn’t know.  the child is persistent.)

GoGo:  You know.  The red one.

(still?  why does my child think the color of his socks matters.  this isn’t rational.)

GoGo:  I don’t like the red one because it makes me feel like I’m walking on my skin.

Me:  What does that mean?

GoGo:  See????

That’s when my son shows me the bottom of his foot.  He’s worn a giant hole in the heel of the sock.

I gently explained that he was allowed to throw away socks with holes in them (along with underwear that are too small or full of holes.)

(how do their underwear get holes in them?  what do they do that makes them rip like that?  MY underwear don’t develop spontaneous rips.  no wait.  i don’t really want an answer to that, do i?)

Realistically, if I let my kids walk around sock footed all the time, they’re going to get holes in their socks.

I bought new socks for me, too.

The day after the red/blue sock incident, I had a sock failure of my own.

I was walking around sock footed and all of a sudden my sock was failing to keep my foot warm enough.  There was a definite cold spot.  I looked, and sure enough the heel had worn through.

Before I took it off, I decided to walk around a bit more.  I must have looked funny.

Hubby:  What are you doing?

Me:  You know what?  It does feel like I’m walking around on my skin.

Hubby:  What?

So I told hubby the whole entire red/blue sock story.  He just shook his head and walked away.

My kids make me laugh.

I can’t help it.

Do your kids make you laugh too?  I’d love to know how.
