Not about Joy at all

not about joy at allToday’s post is not about joy at all.

Imagine me dressed in all black (some leather), maybe with a bit too much mascara and black fingernails.  I’m sitting in a coffee shop, listening to grunge music and bad poetry.

Outside, the weather is cold and wet, the fog hangs heavy in the air.  It reflects my mood perfectly.

I’m planning on jumping on the back of some biker guy’s motorcycle and riding off into the fog, my long black hair streaming behind me.

If today had a theme song, it might actually be George Thorogood’s Bad to the Bone.

Except, the sun is shining.   I’m waiting for my car to get tinted.  And my lipstick is pink, not red.  I’m not wearing mascara at all.  And I’ll leave here in my mom-mobile.  But I am wearing black.  Because it’s my go-to color when I don’t want to decide what to wear.  The only leather is on my shoes.

And honestly, I have a lunch date with a good friend.

Let’s try that again.

Today’s post is not about joy at all.

It’s not even about motherhood.

It might be about how I need a new keyboard because I’ve worn out the J and the Y buttons on this one.

It might even be about how thankful I am to be done with Joy.

It could be about the dark side of motherhood.  We all know it exists.

It could be the launch of 31 days of coffee.

It could have been the rant I’ve been working on about homework.

I might have shared a story about my husband’s continuing struggle with Engineering disease.

I thought about just throwing up a recipe from my old food blog.

I could have just turned my blog black and taken the day off.

It might be about my favorite way to NOT be a joyful mom.

It’s not, but it could be.

 Today’s post is about me.

It’s about  me settling back in to my blog as normal.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow because it’s Five Minute Friday.  I only have ONE post to do, and I know it won’t take long to complete!

I’m looking forward to all the Thanksgiving stories I want to share.  Especially the one about the stuffed turkey.  And the turkey hunt.  And my grandmother’s pumpkin pie recipe.

I’m looking forward to my very first sponsored post.  Squee.

And to my next guest post.

And to whatever the next big adventure is in my life.

I can’t wait to share my kid’s reactions to the dirtier side of hunting.

I’m excited to express thankfulness.  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

Yep, today is about me bouncing around having blogger ADD. There’s so many things to write that I can’t settle down and write them.

I’m like the kid with four presents in my lap, unable to decide what to open first because it’s all so fun to think about.

And um, I’m taking Saturday off.

Welcome back to blogger ADD!! It’s good to hear your excitement about being free.

You did a great job with Joy! It was an inspiration to me every day! Thank you for all the effort and time you put into it. I can’t even imagine how much work it was.

    • Squirrel!

Oh, sorry. Some days were more of a challenge than others. I think being out of town three weekends in a row didn’t help.

The crazy thing is that I still have more to say about joy. I think I’ll stick it in an ebook.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your joy series and am looking forward to reading whatever new topics you finally settle on. I must admit I’m intrigued to read your kids’ reaction to the hunting stuff since I have a hunting husband myself. Enjoy that day off!

    • The hunting reaction will be a few weeks off (or more). Obviously, it depends on how quickly my husband can harvest. For the first two weeks of season, the kids and I are staying home to finish out soccer. I’m kind of glad because I really need a weekend at home!

  3. You did it! The series was amazing! Congratulations on the sponsored post!!

    • Thanks! The series was exhausting, but I’m proud of it. Given that I have a looooooong history of starting stuff I never finish, I’m particularly proud of finishing and posting every single day. That was HUGE for me.

Your posts are always inspiring. We all know like is not about fun and joy at all times. But at the end of the day, we always have a lot of things to appreciate.
