Five Minute Friday – Wonder

five minute fridayFive Minute Friday is my favorite post each week!

I normally start looking forward to the Five Minute Friday reveal as soon as I hit “post” on Thursday (and sometimes sooner!)

It’s the biggest free-writing flash-mob I’ve found on the internet and I seriously love it! I have fun writing, and I love the community that forms the flash mob.

The rules are simple:  one prompt, five minutes to write, no editing (and leave loving comments on other flash mob participants, ok?).  The flash-mob is the brain child of Lisa-Jo Baker and is hosted (hostessed?) at her Tales from a Gypsy Mama Blog.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about STAY.  Last week, I was on vacation.

This week, the topic is WONDER.

Five Minute Friday is taking a break for December, so I’ll have other content to share on Fridays until the first of the year.

My Laundry Room Disaster

clean laundryThe laundry and I have, at best, a truce.  It’s an ongoing battle and I hate to admit that I’m probably losing more often than not.

(warning: this post contains content that does not blend well with morning coffee.  dirty laundry isn’t appetizing.)

Or maybe not.  We wear clean clothes every day, and so far, nothing has crawled out of the pile.  (look, my husband has shirts hung up neatly in the closet.)

Right now, I’m loosing.  No doubt.  I blame the cat.

Before we went on vacation, I had finally gotten caught up.  There was one load of bedding on the floor, but otherwise everything was clean AND put away.

Then, vacation happened.

We took the cat with us, which proved to be a fatal mistake. [Read more…]

My Kids Make Me Laugh – Body Parts

My Kids Make Me LaughI treasure laughing with my kids. I love the times we spend together when I let go of the to-do list and let THEM drive the conversation. Learning how to actually enjoy my kids was a big clue in figuring out my formula for motherhood.

It never goes like I expect, and I’m (almost) always thankful. It’s part of what makes me a Happy Mom. It’s part of discovering the joy of everyday motherhood.

For a start-of-school treat, I took the kids out for breakfast and we had a charming conversation.

(Well, not really charming, but it was typical mother/son interaction that “looked charming” from the outside.) [Read more…]

Look what I wrote

look what i wroteLook what I wrote!  (It’s over at Mothering from Scratch and I’m really excited that they asked me to guest post.)

Now that I think I may survive Thanksgiving, I’m ready to embrace Christmas head on.  Sharing one of our favorite family traditions seemed like the perfect way to kick off the season, so that’s exactly what I did at Mothering From Scratch.

(seriously, it’s their SITS day today.  Go tell Mothering From Scratch how amazing they are.)

Survived Thanksgiving? [Read more…]

Happy Thanksgiving to You

thanksgivingIn honor of Thanksgiving day, I’m taking a few days off from blogging.  I plan to be back on Monday, but I may have something to say before then.

I’m imagining you are doing the same.

For those who have a few minutes to spare and need a quick break from the holiday mania, I’m providing a quick round up of my Thanksgiving themed posts. [Read more…]

Solitude, part three

solitude with thishappymom.comIf you’re wondering how you missed the first two parts of a solitude series, don’t worry.

You didn’t.  I did.  It wasn’t until I was writing today’s post that I even realized it was the third part of a bigger story.  I first wrote about how much I was craving space to think in a Five Minute Friday post on QUIET.   Then I finally got some space and was thankful for it in some thankful thoughts on solitude.

Which brings me to today. [Read more…]

Don’t Let The Turkey Get You Down (part 3)

This is the conclusion of the original turkey trilogy. It’s the story of how I was crowned turkey queen of the house and we ended up with a back porch that oozed rancid floral scented crisco from the concrete in the summer heat.

At the end of the first summer, we’d understood that the crisco soaked concrete would get hot during the day and that the crisco would rise to the surface. [Read more…]

Thankful Thoughts – Thankful for Solitude

thankful thoughts with thishappymom.comI had planned for today’s thankful thoughts to be on a different subject entirely. So much for planning.

I wanted to write something cute, in honor of Thanksgiving. I had planned to interview each of my boys and ask them what they were thankful for.

It would have been cute, because it almost certainly would have involved turtles, chocolate, and Legos.

Instead, I’m writing in solitude.

It’s a good thing, and I needed it. [Read more…]

Don’t Let the Turkey Get You Down

In our house, I’m in charge of the turkey.

Well, actually, the turkeys.  I manage two of them on a daily basis.

But for the purposes of THIS story, let’s agree that we’re talking turkey.

USDA Certified Poultry.

Thanksgiving Feast worthy turkey. [Read more…]
