Thankful Thoughts – Thankful for Joy

thankful thoughts 31daysToday, my thankful thoughts are about how thankful I am for Joy.

Have you ever really thought about what an amazing thing Joy is?

Have you ever had one of those moments where all of a sudden your heart just feels so full of joy that you can’t stand it, where the smile on your face is so big that your face hurts a tiny bit and the joy is leaking out of your eyes.  The kind of joy where everything looks a little prettier and you can see the beauty in everything?  The kind of joy where you feel a little drunk but are perfectly sober?

Yeah…

Isn’t that amazing?

I had one of *those* joy moments a few weeks ago in church.

We had been singing and worshiping together with some of my favorite songs.

Psalms 47:1 Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

And then our sermon started me thinking about about my leadership style at home and I got all excited the implications.  I love it when I get something practical in a sermon that I can immediately start applying to my life.

After the sermon, there was more prayer and singing.

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!  Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!

Somewhere in all of that, my heart got so full of joy that I couldn’t stand it.  I’m pretty reserved at church, but I admit I was bouncing on my toes while we sang, and that the joy was leaking out of my eyes.

You know what? The joy was the kind that lasted.

It wasn’t that intense, but the memory of that joyous moment stayed with me.   I’d hear one of the songs again and I could still remember that feeling of joy.

It filled me up and kept me energized as I went through the routine of the day.

It flowed out of my fingers and into some of the posts I’ve written on joy the past two weeks.

I wish for YOU to experience that same joy.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

I wish for you to experience the Joy that comes from God.
