Five Minute Friday – Race

five minute fridayFive Minute Friday is my favorite post each week!

I normally start looking forward to the Five Minute Friday reveal as soon as I hit “post” on Thursday (and sometimes sooner!)

It’s the biggest free-writing flash-mob I’ve found on the internet and I seriously love it! I have fun writing, and I love the community that forms the flash mob.

The rules are simple:  one prompt, five minutes to write, no editing.  The flash-mob is the brain child of Lisa-Jo Baker and is hosted (hostessed?) at her Tales from a Gypsy Mama Blog.

Last week, I wrote about WELCOME

This week, the topic is RACE

Five Minute Friday – Race

I find it ironic that I’m racing to cram this post in during the time it takes my kids to eat breakfast today.

I’m racing to get my morning routine complete so I can fit in a coffee date with my husband this morning.  Since I’m not a morning person, it’s not a guarantee that I’ll get everything done.

“what cha do-in?”

My family does not respect the intensity of my race.

They can’t see the fierceness of the competition.  They are oblivious to my invisible finish line looming just out of reach.   They are blissfully unaware that my fingers are racing over the keyboard, trying to keep up with the words as they form in my mind.

I like it that way.

I would never want my kids to say

shhhhh.  mommy’s writing.  we can’t bother her.

wait! don’t go in there.  mommy’s busy.

it’s ok mommy, we can wait. we know your blog is more important.

Because those are wrong.

I love that my family is unaware of the race I run today.  I love that they are oblivious to my five minute dash.

If my five minutes get interrupted with 30 seconds of hugs, so much the better.

This race I run is a crazy one. But oh so worth it.

ps – I won the race.

That’s it for Five Minute Friday.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

    • Thankfully, my mom made me take touch typing when I was in junior high. The class was on manual typewriters, the kind where you actually had to slam the carriage return at the end of each line. Do they still make those things?
