31 Days of Joy in Motherhood – Day 1

31 days of joy in motherhood

After endless indecision, I finally committed – 31 Days of Joy in Motherhood. It’s one long series, but I promise you it won’t be boring.

I don’t have a single post written, but I know where I’m going.  I LIKE where this is going.

I am so stinking excited about it I can’t stand it!  I seriously want to chug a gallon of coffee and stay up all night writing.

This is going to be so cool.

(excuse me while I geek out.)

Because I’m committed to continuing my regular features (My Kids Make Me Laugh, Thankful Thoughts, and Five Minute Fridays) there may be some days I post more than once.  (I also have a killer pumpkin recipe or two that I just HAVE to share.)

I may not be able to actually fit it all in, there may be some bonus content in my weekly newsletter.

(I also have a post on my husband’s engineering disease that I can’t wait to share!  It’s a dishwasher battle royale.  Giggle.)

By the end of the month, I want our hearts to be so full of JOY that there is no room to feel worn out or weary!

How cool would that be?

So why 31 Days of Joy in Motherhood?

Because motherhood matters.  We shape the lives of children and provide a life-long influence in their lives.  What we do today has the potential to impact our world long after our children are grown.  Our joy gives them wings.

Because motherhood is exhausting.  It’s the hardest job in the world, and it rarely gets the recognition that it deserves.  It’s easy to become weary, worn out, burned out, used up, disillusioned, isolated, and just plain frustrated.    Joy is the antidote to that.

Because Joy in Motherhood is my passion.  I know what life is like when momma’s not happy.  I know how my own family suffers when I simply go through the motions.  I know how different things are in my home when I’m joyful and happy.  My joy makes life better.

Joy and Happiness in motherhood are so important to me that I started a blog about it.

How can we find Joy in Motherhood in 31 Days?

  • Motherhood has value.  I want us to celebrate that in some fun and unusual ways.
  • Our children are treasures.  Delighting in them is a powerful experience.
  • Hope, purpose, and planning all play a role.  Those sound big and boring, but they don’t have to be!
  • One word: Felicity.  Go ahead and giggle if you want to.
  • Laughter, thankfulness, and play.   Sisterhood, community, and giggles.

Sound like fun?  I am so excited about this!

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

    • Nikki, it has been a huge struggle for me too. I think it is for almost all of us at some point (if not daily). It’s just not something most people feel comfortable admitting in real life.

    • I’m glad you can walk with your toe. I can’t imagine how embarrassing and painful that was. EEEEKK!

I already post daily, so the 31 day challenge wasn’t that big for me. If I wasn’t posting daily, I can see how this would be a huge deal.

  4. I must say I’m a bit disappointed. I thought you were going to write about 31 days of espresso beans! Ha! I’m looking forward to reading your posts.

  6. {Melinda} Love, love, love this!! Motherhood rocks — it can be joyful. Even when it’s really hard. And I have teenagers. Believe me, it can be REALLY hard. 🙂

Can’t wait to see all you have planned unfold!

    • Mothering IS hard work, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But yes – it ROCKS. I can’t wait to share all of what I’ve got in draft. I’m so excited about sharing it.

Wow – that was disorienting. Sticky post, eh? I thought you’d stopped blogging. (Why, yes, I was “projecting,” what of it?) Time to catch up!

    • I haven’t stopped blogging, I’m on day 25 of 31 days of Joy! A week from now, the sticky post can go away!

I’m also horribly behind on my RSS feed and visiting all my bloggy friends. I’ve been trying to actually get caught up on housework. It’s working, but it means I’ve had way less time to play.

  8. I am expecting a day 32 post about how joyous you are not be writing about joy any longer. I am very much enjoying your series 🙂

    • Day 32 is already in draft. I um… might have that phrase already typed. I’ve loved this month and the topic, but I am seriously ready to write about something else!
