Five Minute Friday – Graceful

5 minute fridayI participate in “Five Minute Friday” from Lisa Jo Baker’s Tales from a Gypsy Mama blog.  She provides a writing prompt, and I have five minutes to write to that subject.  No editing, no fussing.  Just. write.

People all over the web join in the free-writing exercise.  You can too.   I’d love to see your writing in the comments of her page or shared on your blog.  Just let me know what to look for and I’ll cheer you on.

Last week, I wrote about “change.”
Today, I write about “GRACEFUL.”

If anything, I am the OPPOSITE of graceful.  I hyperextended my knee kicking a beach ball in college.  I sprained my ankle (the first time) walking across a perfectly flat parking lot.  Wearing flats.  While I was sober.

My husband says that he’s never seen me without a bruise of some kind on my leg or arm.

He took my glue gun into protective custody.

No, I’m not exactly graceful.

But I am grace-full.

I am full of God’s grace.

It’s God’s grace that lets me look past the broken glass “treasure” on the floor and into my son’s face to see his regret and fear… and extend my arms in instant forgiveness.

It’s God’s grace that lets me look past the (once again) forgotten anniversary and into the eyes of a husband who loves me beyond belief every single day of the year.

It’s God’s grace that lets me look past the petty gossiping from a friend, even when I know I’ve been the subject of her words, to see a heart that is troubled and in need of hope.

Without God’s grace, I would be as awkward and clumsy in my relationships with others as I am walking thru parking lots.  The hearts around me would be as bruised and wounded as my shins.

But because I am grace-full, I can be graceful with the hearts of those I love.

Joining in to Five Minute Friday was the best blogging decision I could have ever made!  Please join me.  I’d love to read what you write.

That’s it for Five Minute Friday.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

    • Giving grace (and receiving it) was such an awesome lesson for me to learn. It was one of my best take-aways from my MOPS group a few years back. I loved seeing it modeled and practiced each week (and openly talked about). It was so powerful and I am forever grateful for it. But it does take time to “grow into” the idea and actually be able to practice it consistently.

  2. what a beautiful post and funny as well. I bruise myself all the time too, I’ve broken countless toes with my clumsiness.

It was lovely to read how you are grace-full and see beyond what you are feeling to see the truth in others. thanks for sharing babe/

    • I’m so glad I’m not the only one who breaks toes and stuff. I was on crutches last October for falling into a ditch. Sprained BOTH ankles. Don’t ask how.
