It’s The Little Things – My Kids Make Me Laugh

my kids make me laughMy kids make me laugh. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make me laugh.

There are times when there is an extended conversation with a child that has me secretly cracking up inside (sometimes, they’re only funny in retrospect).

More often, it’s the little things.  My kids have had some great one-liners recently that just made me giggle.

Like last week, when I made cinnamon toast for the boys as a treat.  Watty looked at it and said

Cinnamon toast?  Oh mom! That’s sooooo last week.

Or the day when I hit the McDonald’s drive through for a latte.  GoGo smiled at me in the rear view mirror and said in his best narrator voice

Today’s breakfast is brought to you by the letter “M.”

Or the day they watched the myth busters episode on flatulence.  They asked for beans for dinner and told me

It’s for science mom!

Then there’s the time GoGo walked out of the bathroom and handed my husband an empty toilet paper roll.  He said.

Here daddy, you’re gonna be surprised… There’s a mess in there I didn’t make.

But I think my favorite this week was the following exchange:

GoGo: I’m going to be president when I grow up.
Watty: Are you gonna be on Mt Russian?
GoGo: Nah, I wanna be on a gold coin.

Our children are a treasure trove of humor, a gold mine of laughter.  All we need to do is slow down long enough to actually listen to what they have to say.  Take time this week to stand outside the playroom door and listen to what the kids say when they don’t know you are around.  Take time to really hear what they are saying.  Share a good laugh with your spouse over the amazingly silly things your kids say.  Give in to the urge to giggle with your kids.

Care to share how your kids made you laugh this week?

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

  1. Love these kinds of posts! Kids say the most hilarious things. Visiting you from our SITS discussion forum and love what you did with the jump break we discussed. I like the intentionality of your break and the structure of you post. The witty kids are a plus too! ;D

    Great connecting with you!

    • Ferly, thanks so much for the kind words. I’ve been peeking at your blog and wishing you were a wordpress girl so you could give me some pointers. I have a case of the “blah blog blues” and I’m struggling with how to pretty things up.

  2. Hahahaha…”Are you going to be on Mt. Russian?” Hahahaha… Kids are the best.

Great post! I love spying on my guys. My middle one is notoriously funny. His latest routine is one that involves his hands fighting each other in a full-on wrestling match that he commentates. We laugh often!!

    • my kids pretty much have figured out that if they can make me laugh they won’t be in nearly as much trouble. i can’t help myself! 🙂
