Home at last – Thankful Thoughts

thankful thoughtsAwareness. Appreciation. Gratefulness. Thankfulness. Gratitude. Enjoyment. Thanksgiving.

I started to write about how thankful I am for my bed.  It’s amazing.  It’s just the right softness, the sheets stay cool all night, and my pillow is beyond description.  After a year of living apart during the remodel (sleeping on strange hotel beds stunk) the reunion with my bed was joyful.

I started to write more about reunion with my bookshelves and how thankful I am to finally feel like I’m home.

I started to write about my kitchen and how excited I am to finally have all the kitchen appliances in place. I’m amazed at how much appreciate owning a stove and an oven!  I never really appreciated how much simpler they make my life until I didn’t have them.  I am so thankful I can cook dinner without dragging out seven different small (non dishwasher safe) appliances.

I started to write about how thankful I am for my front porch.  We added it during the remodel, and I love it.  I love being able to send a child with attitude out to sit and think, even in the rain.  I’m thankful for a quiet shaded spot where I can escape from the kid noise during the day.

I thought about writing about how thankful I am for finding my boxes of shoes.   I’d forgotten I owned that many shoes.   It was like winning a shoe lottery.

I contemplated writing about how thankful I am for my laundry room.  I spent months lugging laundry to a public washateria.  Being able to do laundry without getting dressed up is an underrated joy.

I could probably write about how thankful I am for the fact that the boys sleep in their own rooms now.  During the remodel, there was just not enough space or privacy!  I would wake up many nights hearing my husband and both boys snoring.

But none of those seemed worthy of a thankful thoughts post.

Then it struck me.

I’m thankful to be home.

So tell me, what are you thankful for today?

  1. I’m thankful for the summer! I’m a high school teacher by school year and a SAHM mom by summer and this has been far and away the best summer of my life! With the school year looming, I must remember to be thankful and not anxious. Thanks for this reminder!

    • Enjoy every last day of this summer! I know August can be hectic for teachers as they get ready for the school year. I hope you have some great moments to treasure before returning to the grind of work.

I’m thankful for air conditioning!! It’s hot outside! I’m thankful for blogging. I feel like I’ve finally found a step on the path He has for me.

    • i agree about the a/c! a few weeks back we got to church and discovered there was no air conditioning for our small group room. we just couldn’t make it! the room was already 90 degrees before people started piling it. we gave up and cancelled class rather than feel woozy from the heat.

it feels good to align your path with His plans. i’m glad to hear that blogging is helping you do that. being able to write with a bigger purpose really makes a difference, doesn’t it.
