A unique view of my remodel, in 218 words

home at last - remodelI’ve talked about my remodel before, but I’ve never actually shared the whole story from start to finish.  It’s long and involved and complicated.   I could have easily written 2-3 blog posts a day for the past 18 months with all the nitty gritty details.

But they would have been really boring posts.

Instead, I’ll share my story in some unique ways.  Starting with this one.

My remodel story in 218 words, as viewed from my toilet.

We started a major remodel on our house June 2011.  It was supposed to be done before school started.  The house needed all new electrical and plumbing, so it wasn’t exactly livable.

(I like flushing toilets).

So we spent the summer in our RV.

House wasn’t ready when school started.  We drove an hour each way to get to school.  Time passed.  I cracked.

We moved to Hotel A around Halloween.  The house was supposed to be done by Thanksgiving.  Time passed.  It wasn’t.

We went on Christmas vacation.  We returned to the same hotel.  They started remodeling.  The remodeling cut the plumbing.  They lost running water.

I like flushing potties.

I got sent to a “loaner” room.  There was someone else in the room.  He was male.  He had just finished taking a shower.  I cracked.

My husband booked us into Hotel B.  We moved.  House wasn’t ready.  Hotel was overbooked.  I freaked.

We moved to Hotel C.

Potty was ready at the house.

Moved to the house March 2012.

One potty.  No sink.  No problems.

Added sink and shower.  Big problems.

Poop explosion.

Big plumbing mistakes.  Back down to one potty.  Added big hole in the ground. Plumbing fixed.

Where we stand:  1 functional shower (still missing 2).  All other plumbing functional,

including three lovely potties.

I promise I’ll fill in some of the missing details in posts to come.

ps – if i can figure out how, i’ll add the video of my boys’ response to a functional potty in the house.

Do you have any remodeling stories to share?

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.

Oh. My. Word! What an experience!! I can’t even imagine! No wonder you were emotional about unpacking your books!!

    • it’s been a journey. i’ve felt pretty uprooted over the past 18 months. but God has used it to teach me some lessons. i’ve grown in ways i would never have expected. if it helps, i’d do the whole remodel over again, even knowing what i know. i might do a few things differently, but i’d still do it.
