Uh-oh! – The Kids Spent Their Chore Money

full shoe bin on a chore money date - ouch

My kids spent some of their chore money today, but they were not impressed.

Earlier today I tweeted about going to McDonalds.  The kids paid with points rather than cash directly (mainly because I had no cash on hand).

I charged them 70 points each ($3.50) to go to McDonalds.  That covered the basic Happy Meal plus a $1 drink for me.  There was some serious shock on their little faces.  It took them TWO DAYS to earn 70 points (they’ve been averaging 35 points most days)!

Point project scores again, those cheesy happy meal toys weren’t quite so appealing at that cost.  They had a hard time spending their chore money!

Chore money is more valuable than mommy money.

I tried to get them to treat it like they were taking me on a date (hold open doors, act like gentlemen) but that didn’t exactly work out.  They were too busy realizing that they’d worked for two days to earn enough points to have one little happy meal.

Most moms know what this photo means.  Most moms cringed when they saw it.  The shoe bin was totally full!  That means the place was jammed and a total mad-house.  We lasted about thirty minutes.

Ouch.  Two days of hard work for a bad burger, a cheap toy, and an over crowded playscape.

Lesson. Learned.

I have a passion for encouraging weary worn out mothers to find joy in everyday motherhood and peace in unlikely places. I have two elementary school boys, one nerdy husband, and two cats. I have a strange fascination for bad puns, the color pink, socks, and books. I worry about running out of toilet paper, wine, and chocolate.. I serve an amazing God. I live an ordinary life filled with wonder.
